Default forgive me if this is stupid but..

is there any true gain from using an electric water pump? i know that it frees up about 7hp on some cars, but then i got to thinking and remembered mine was cam driven and i assume that the gain had come from a deletion of a pulley on the other cars. so.. am i correct? thanks.

Not really much of a difference unless someone has proved that one will run for more total hours before dying. I have had 2 of the Meizeres (SP?) on different cars and like them alot.

so you think it's worth the 200 bucks if i already have a 160 stat to put in anyway? seems like the best time since the system will be drained anyway.

You'll have to mod your housing, just so you know. Unless that's just a Meizer thing.

It's not a big deal, especially if you have a dremel or air tool.

Don't know about 97s, but you have to block off the rear hole in the water pump where the drive shaft used to go in. My buddy used a small *** frost plug, we sat at the parts store milling through their selection to find one that'd fit.

I think you have that backwards the CSR has to have the housing modded. Mezier is supposed to be drop in.

I'm talking about the water pump housing, or are we on the same page and that's what you mean by shroud? I assume fan/s when I hear that.

I got a CSR and i had to trip the fan housing a tad to allow clearance, I felt a difference with the EWP just make it habit to check your gauges frequently as a precaution

Well not sure about the CSR, but there are a regular mezier and a HD model. The HD model has a slightly higher flow.

I have the meziere.. it installed with ease. It comes with everything you need. All you'll need is like a small punch and a hammer to knock out the impellor... My temps stay constant at 178-180* city or highway

Approximately how long do these things last?? Also is there a way to maybe hook up a small l.e.d. light or something that would warn you if the pump failed?

I have been looking into them, and the only thing that scares me is the idea of it just dying suddenly, especially since i would be DDing the car.

Another benefit of an EWP is that you can run an adjustable double roller timing chain for a factory roller equipped SBC since you won't need that gear on the back of the cam sprocket to turn the factory water pump. A definite plus if you want to degree in an aftermarket cam or if you just want the added strength.
