How long will my stock tranny last?
(2002 camaro ss) I have a stock auto tranny and rear end with 3.23's. Mods are tourquer v2 cam, 3200rpm stall. with supporting mods(exhaust CAI) bout' 400rwhp. Just wondering how long this stuff will last before it starts breaking.

Mine lasted a loooooong time with the mods in my sig. 70,000 miles + 200+ track passes. BUT I was only running lid and catback for most of those miles and I'm only making 325 rwhp.
With 400 rwhp I would guess your stock 4L60E is on borrowed time. I would limit the WOT runs/track passes if you don't have 2K or so for a sponsor built 4L60E.
Good luck.

400 hp is not too rough on the unit. It really all depends on how you drive it and how you maintain it. I don't think I would get overly concerned about it myself. But, there really in no predicting it.
Good Luck,

rpm and hitting the rev limiter are more of a factor than the amount of hp you make. keep the shift points stock if you dont have money to throw around for a new tranny. It should last awhile.

Keep the rpm's down and you may be able to keep the stock tranny alive for a little bit. Start shifting at 6800 and it's toast. Ironically, keeping the shift points stock makes the cam pretty useless, so that's why you see stock trannys going out all the time after a cam install

totally agree!! i think its how you drive your car. if your there manually shifting all the time, doing burnouts, and doggin the hell out your car, then yeah it will grenade. but if your tranny is in okay condition with no issues and you take it easy it should hold up. honestly, i think if your tranny gives then it wasnt in good condition or strong enough to begin with. there are guys in 10's with spray and a big *** cam, and there trans is still working fine. ****, from what i have read some stock trannies can hold up longer than most tranny builders beefed up 4L60E. since my tranny felt good, i went ahead and went with all go fast parts. but im now starting to save up for a beefed up trans. so in a way we cant say the 4L60E are crap..

82k on our stocker, with over 550rwhp on the juice (dynoed 532rwhp/508rwtq on a 100 shot - now on a 180 shot). So far *knock on wood* no problems. We may have a freak stocker though...

It all depends on how often you drive the car and how often you beat on the car. If your averaging 10-20 passes down the 1320 a month with a few street races in between then I would be prepared to spend 2 grand on a built unit within the next 3-6 months...
If you drive the car daily to and from work with a normal driving mentality and only race a few times a year then it could last a few years...
With a good cooler, low RPM shifts, and keeping the trans full of fresh clean fluid you may be surprised what you get out of it...

Like everyone has said, there's no telling.
I've got I/E and my 3/4 started slipping at 83k.
Low RPMs help them live longer.
Either way, i'd start saving up now (at least $2k) or applying for credit cards.

I have a 2002 Z28 That I bought with 32,000 miles on it a few months back. I,ve had a few track passes when I was just all boltons but the tranny was slipping when I bought the car.. I just had H/C installed and got the car back last Thursday. It made 423rwhp and 375rwtrq on the slipping tranny. Mods are in my sig. The #'s where lower than expected due to the tranny problems but it finaly crashed yesterday on the home. I wasn't racing, just driving normal at 70mph and the 3/4 clutchs went out. I just picked up a new built tranny from Thunder Racing today and it should ready by Friday. Good luck with it and like everyone said baby it until you get the funds to replace it.
