Help me build a 500hp 454..
ok guys last thread I promise
anyways I am wanting to build a 500hp I guess 550 so I can get close to 500 at the wheels using a 454 and iron heads....
What heads should I go with to port, a good cam, intake ect.... also want to put a 200+ shot ontop of it... thanks

Forged pistons would be a good idea, not only for the N2O but for an accidental over rev, piston speed in a big block is a real concern. I have heard of stock rods going 700 hp on a big block, i would go aftermarket scat rods, same i have heard of stock cranks. You can have oval ports hogged out to make the power you want as long as they are not the small peanut ports. Good luck and have fun.

Check out the engine masters BBC challange. They had a 454 that put out 650+ at the crank using mostly stock or off the shelf components except for H/C/I and they were ported and matched. Because you are using nitrous though like everyone else said step up rods, pistons to handle it.
I agree that you should go with Oval ports too. No need for big rectangle ports on that small a motor.

Also might want to look at the weight of a Iron block BBC with aluminum heads and a Iron block Iron head BBC compared to what you have now. I bet you will be pretty shocked at how much more weight those heads are going to add. I think they are roughly double that of aluminum. True, you could get a crate motor.

Spend you money on a good set of aluminum heads and run a solid flat tappet cam to save some money. But put your money into the heads!! The stock crank should be able to hold what your wanting out of it, so long as you keep the rpm reasonable (7000 rpm or less). You can buy a set of good forged rods from Scat for $170+ shipping ( http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...367&CtgID=1134 ). Here is a set of 2618 alloy forged pistons that won't break the bank but will live on the n2o, http://www.cnc-motorsports.com/produ...10&CtgID=18789 .
