Suspension & Brakes - What are these crappy SFC's?

Just bought an '01 Z28 t-top. It has some round SFC's on it that weld in about two inches or more IN FRONT of the LCA bolt.
The also have two small tabs on each one.
Here are some pics, I think I'm just going to cut them off and get UMI's like I have on my SS.
Any idea who made this garbage?

i was just reading a post by Sam Strano, cause i was thinking about adding SFC to my list of things to buy this week. He pretty much says unless your making crazy drag racing power SFC aren't really needed. And he puts more abuse into his car than i think most on this forum do and all his competition wins were without SFC. i guess i see it now more as an insurance policy if anything.

I will tell you this from experience, the SFC do help in more ways than one. They stiffen up the car and really make it handle. When I put mine on, the difference was night and day on how well it made the suspension work.

When I added sub frame connectors it really tightened the feel of the car and made jacking the car up much easier.

I put my SFC on to quiet down some of the interior rattles/sqeeks and it did so im happy with em:nod:

Also, when I put mine in, the t-tops quit leaking. Hell that was worth it right there.

I think this is getting too far off the subject a bit.
I did put UMI SFC's on my SS and welded them on real good, I understand and have seen the results.
But these SFC's on this '01 I just got are welded on 2 inches before the LCA bolt. I thought they added way more strength when they went all the way back to the bolt.
In fact I can't find an F Body SFC today that doesn't mount to the bolt.
So is it worth worrying about, should I keep these, change them out, or take them off and run without?

FWIW, a friend of mine doesn't have them, but has a cage which basically does the same thing. The SFC's kinda mount up like mine did and mine seems pretty stable. I don't know what that tab in the middle is for though. Unless it would be used to make them 3pt. Really I guess it's your decision. Although they don't look like they're welded to good up front.

I've read pretty much the same thing. Based on what I've read, the people that notice the SFCs are the ones on stock suspension, while the people with a good set of shocks/springs/sway bars don't really notice anything. That said, I'm running UMI 3pt SFCs on a totally stock suspension. I won't take them off, as I also view it as "insurance," if you will.

Yeah SFC's are hit and miss. Either that or some notice it and some don't.
I just ordered Strano springs/sways, koni's, and UMI adj PHB and lca relocation brackets, and an adj. torque arm. I'm not gonna get SFC's until I install all of those and think I need/would like them.
And to the OP. I have no idea what SFC's those are. Another vote here for home made.

They look like the SFCs that LG Motorsports was selling a few years back. The tabs are for an "X" brace that was optional.
I bought a set of these, and found that there were a few "clearance issues" with them. What I should have done is simply sent them back. But, you know how it goes...I'll just grind a little here, and trim a little there...Next thing you know, they still won't work all that well, but since you've cobbed them up, you can't return them. I wound up selling mine to someone who wasn't too fussy about the details.

Those look a lot like my J&M SFCs...

I also have the same set, and have no idea who made them. They are pretty shitty looking but if they work, what difference does it make?

Sam Strano told me that only help the handling if you have a poor suspension. People who put them on before suspension say they help. People who add them after say they don't. Also, 4th Gen F-Body has one of the stiffest unibodies ever. Sam said he doesn't run them on his car because of the extra weight.

Honestly I didn't notice any difference when I put them on my SS. Before I even got this car I read how SFC's are a good first mod because they get rid of creaks and rattles but it's more like they added noise.
As for my Z28 in the pictures they were on there already. This car supposedly ran low 6 seconds in the 1/8 and the pass side 1/4 panel has a huge wave in it.
There is no other damage to the car. At least one person on this site told me he has the same type of problem on his 1/4 panel.
It also looks like the sfc on that side is bent upwards.

ha, homemade? lol
I have the SLP 3 points, yea they hang lower than most, yea they're bulky...but DAYMN they're awesome. After putting them on I went around a corner that I usually stick with but with a good amount of body roll, this time, the ass end almost felt like it wanted to come out, and the inside rear wheel almost felt like it was slipping. Honestly I freaking love them, the only reason I'd take these off is for the UMI 3 points(more ground clearance) which seeing that I already have SFCs, isn't on the top of my list of things to worry about.
