Default Looking to Build a 12 second car !!

I just got a stock 2000 z28 with 30k miles and its a beautiful slate for me to build on. Quick question before I list what parts Im thinking of putting on and maybe some ideas from everyone. Does anyone know if the 2000 had the LS6 intake?

I was looking at http://www.autoanything.com/exhausts...A2937A0A0.aspx for exhaust

http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=21046 for air intake, plus slp lid

and http://www.lmperformance.com/4170/1.html for a converter

should I look into gears?

Also looking to get some lower control arms since I've heard when you start getting some power these cars have a real problem with wheel hop.

I'm open to suggestions and other sites for better prices! Also I'll buy any of these parts used if anyone has a good deal.

You have a 2000 LS1 car and want to go 12s? Thats easy. Put longtubes and 4.10s in it.

Aren't headers hard to install on LS1's?

Hah ya DadsZ28 **** your like 10-15mins away from me, If u feel like running ur car I'm gona be at ATCO Sunday for the 10.0/12.0 index racing with my dad. Just look for a black F350 Pulling a white trailer with a black 92mustang with blue flames and of course I'll have my 00' pewter z28.

No its quite easy. Anyone who can use basic tools can do it. Just need to get the front of the car up in the air a little.

Getting a LS1 into the 12's is super easy.

On mine I pulled 12.50's all day long with a best of a high 12.4's. All I had done was lid, LT headers, and a 3200 stall. Car still has stock 2.73 gears and ran it on street tires, 60ft was only 1.8's

In the next few weeks I'll finally be opening up the car some with a head/cam upgrade with a D1SC hopefully by the end of the summer.

+1 once I had all my stock bullshit out of the way I probably had 20 minutes into installing both headers.

no, just do your research and buy a good fitting brand. I bought american racing headers. They are stainless and aren't cheap, but they slid in like butter. After I removed the stock crap it was literally less than a half hour to get the headers all bolted in. No, you don't need to move the motor in any way.

I did my Hooker LTs in about 2 hours....and that was because I stopped on the headers for a short bit to do new plugs

If it took the tech 8 hours he might want to think about dusting off his resume lol

Wow lol. I did mine in like a hour total when I was 18. I would have gladly done them for 100 bucks. Hell probably even 50.00

I had my headers installed, it only took them 3 hours, but afterwards it seemed like something i could have done, other than welding up the y-pipe.

so you have the LS1 manifold BUT you also have the LS1 cam, whereas the 01-02 cars have an LS6 manifold with a truck cam (5.3L?), so if you swap in the LS6 manifold, or even better, a FAST 92mm manifold youll be ahead of the game.

So with the manifold, headers and exhaust (corsa is good, but theres other good options that are cheaper), dyno tune and decent drag radial tires you should get into the 12s on stock gears and stall.

Thats basically what im looking at now, this weekend ill know where in the 12s I am.

Thumbs up

Congrats. You didn't happen to be driving down to 206 and cross over 545 today did ya? saw a pewter z28. I have one too but w/ the black stripes. Hope I see ya around .

12s are easy. check my sig. Def looking for 12.7s w/ a tune now. LS1s are teH ****. Cheap to make go fast, sexy as hell, and they last if you take car of 'em.
