Default Is the sensor just above the # 1 cylinder a water temp sensor ?

If so can it be removed to install an aftermarket gauge sensor without throwing codes. If not where is another place to put an aftermarket sensor ? Some state behind the pass. side head but that is rediculously inaccesable.

Yes that's the ECT sensor, but PCM needs it. Buddy of mine used the port by #8 for his aftermarket water gauge.

I see a "port" over 8 but it looks like it does not come in contact w the fluid, just a port. What is the approx. 15 mm bolt going into the head just above # 4 cylinder ?

The 12mm plug on the pass head (on the #8) is the reflex of the one with the ECT on the driver side. Same hole, goes intot he same coolant passage. Heads can be installed on either side, but only have the temp over the #1. You can adapt to get a sender into the hole. It works, all the swap guys use it.
