Default Pulling and swaping ls1 engine in an fbody

Is there a way to lift the front of the car up off of the kmember using a chain hoist? I don't have a car lift but I do have a large chain hoist that would lift the front of the car high enough. where should I hook the hoist to to lift the front of the car with out damageing any thing?

i would think the front bumper support since it ties into both sides of the sub frame. That's what I'm planning on lifting from with my hoist when I put the new motor in.

Yes, I've seen it done many times by a cherry picker. When I did it I just pulled the engine/tranny out through the front though.

If you find a post about this that gives the locatio to lift from let me know. I tried to search and all I found was how to remove the engine on a lift from the bottom.

so you pulled it out the top? how did you pull it from the top? I am guessing you removed the manifolds or headers, intake and heads? How did you attach to the engine to pull it out? I have a cherry picker and a large chain hoist thats set up on large steel I beams.

Pulling the motor/tranny from the top requires you to unbolt the headers, and remove all of the accesories off the front of the motor. Then I used a plate that bolts where the valley cover goes and pulled them right out.

Here's some pictures of how we did it on my brother's old camaro. I did it the same way on my TA though.

Does some one sell the plate that you used? does any one have any info on using a hoist or cherry picker to lift the front of the car off of the engine and k member?

I pulled mine from the top. I don't know what I was thinking. Pull it out the bottom, front suspension, pcm and all.

I would definetly rather take it out the bottom but I don't have a lift. I do have a cherry picker and a large chain hoist mounted about 10 feet above the ground. I have been trying to see whats the best way to hook up to the front of the car to lift it.

We made a plate similar to this that attached to the valley cover http://www.automedia.com/Camaro_Cher...ht20020701ch/1

You have to take off all the accesories down to the block to get it out though.
