918 Titatium retainer weight verses factory steel
I weighed a set of Comp Cams Titatium retainers for use with Comp Cams 26918 "918" springs. They weigh 110-112 grains. My factory retainers weigh 170-175 grains. That's over 50% weight savings.

Yes, it is significant. I wasn't going to do them but then decided to go ahead in order to offset some of the extra weight I have from larger valves. Couldn't hurt for sure. It's more like 35% less weight though.....

My gram scale is very accurate. It has to be as it's a powder measure scale for reloading ammunition. They have to be pretty accurate to avoid accidents.
The reason I put a range is because the retainers weigh differently one to the next.

I weighed a Comp titanium retainer VS a stock retainer on a tripple beam scale and came up with titanium, 9 grams, stock, 11 grams.

Just to clarify, valve train weight is important in that it determines at what point/rpm your valves float, how stiff of a valve spring you have to run, and consequently how hard your valve smacks the seat and how fast your bearings wear..... I don't think anyone is buying titanium retainers to save on race weight
Larry, show me your math...(on how you get 50%) If the weight savings was half, then a titanium retainer would weigh half as much as a steel one. Alternatively, you could say, that a steel retainer weighs 50% more than a titanium retainer..

Dang me! I divided with the wrong weight. I used 112 verses 170. About 35% is correct. Should have double checked my division when you first posted.
