Need help on building a 10 sec SS
I wondering if this combo will get me seeing the 10's at the track?
50 thousands off the heads
3 angle valve job
150hp wet nx system
4.56 rear gears
built tranny automatic
diablo computer tuner
underdrive pulleys
port and polished heads
1.6 roller rockers
extrude honed intake manifold
2500 rpm stall
shift kit
basani y-pipe
3'' cat back with resonators no mufflers
28 inch drag slicks
Any info would be great... I heard you were the guys to ask, so fill me in.

Re: Need help on building a 10 sec SS
Blake,
I assume you mean an LS-1 powered SS...
Predicting performance isn't quite that easy, but I'll give you some tips from my experience.
1st - Gears. Don't go over 4.30's with the A4 NA (naturally aspirated - no nitrous, no turbo, no blower), I wouldn't go over 4.11 on nitrous with 28's.
2nd - Stall. To launch, you'll like a higher stall. More like 4000. Make sure it is stalled for spray. That would be somewhere around 3000 stall NA.
3rd - strip it. If you plan to go through the exhaust, then you'll have to shed weight. Drag battery, drain windshield washer fluid, strip the interior (especially the carpet). Have your roll bar made from CM, five point only. CM K-member. CM subframe connectors. Lose the A/C and all associated parts.
4th - suspension. Front shocks that will allow a quick rise. Airbag the right rear.
5th - I almost missed this - put a cam in it.
6th - Make sure you have the basics (smooth bellows, lid, K&N, etc.)
7th - Extrude honed intake? Are you running a Holley? Unless you need that for your nitrous setup, get a plastic LS6 intake - they run cooler.
Heat 'em good. Leave hard on the converter, then hit the juice. Don't forget to hang on.
Remember, this is just my experience. The 10-sec run my car did was NA, so maybe you don't need quite all the weight savings with the nitrous assist.
Oh, one other thing. When you leave that hard onthe converter, make sure you stay in the gas and let the front wheels come back down on their own!

I run an M6, so I am not sure on the stall - 2500 seems a lot lower than most are running. Also, are you planning on what type of headers? You can breath in, but you need to breath out also.
But so far as the rest: I am running a stock bottom end, 4:30 gears, 100 shot; 28x10.5x15. Best is 11.38. (You'd have to go to my site to see all the bolt ons)
Cam? What will be your shift points? Will you run out of gears using 4:56's? I "think" you should be well into the 10's if your shift points are at/above 6600-6700 rmps. If not you'll more that likely run out of gear before the 1000' marker (and therefore 4:30's maybe better). Believe you'd cross the line right at rev if at 6600+. Again this is based on my experiences and not any sciencific formula.
Good luck
David

Well from what I'm reading here I can get this thing into the 10.50 range with a 150shot, all the bolt ons, and some gears and transmission work. Of course running 28 slicks.

I would say 12 bolt, 4.10s and at least a 3500 stall added to the boltons and suspension. LS1 Edit IMO is better suited for what you wanna do. Don't shave the heads that much, port them and add some nice valvetrain, throw in at least a 224/228 on a 114 and spray away.

Re: Need help on building a 10 sec SS
Just look in my sig and do the same. Im spraying 175 and weight 3500lbs( before i added the 6 point bar). Stock rearend, stock tranny, stock driveshaft, stock fuel system(i would upgrade this), stock computer, motor is stock from intake to oil pan(no cam, no LS6 intake, no porting) only bolt ons are grott headers( i run these open), an air lid and a 160 thermo. I pull consistant 1.4 60's and 10.8x's.

BTW you also want 1.7 rockers at least, because they are stock.

Ok I think I have the formula for a 10second street warrior.
port and polish heads
4.56 gears
corvette 2/3 servos
3/4 clutch from 6 to 9 clutches
shift kit
3000 stall
diablo computer programmer
borla y-pipe

Blake,
Running the White Supra eh? Hopefully you are running for enough money to make your new mods worthwhile. Then again, going faster is always worthwhile!
I will have to come down there to watch - I didnt go to the other two - actually I was planning to go the Rock the next day, which got rained out. Might bring the car and make a few runs too......

Yeah Figured it was time to run rich and see if all this hype I hear about his supra is true or not. We know each other there t6?

Re: Need help on building a 10 sec SS
I am not sure if we know each other. I used to have a midnite blue AWD Talon that I ran at the Rock for 7 years. Now I have a white Supra.
I know Richard (the Supra owner), I met him a couple of times. I know about his car. He could use some ET streets, right now he is running drag radials and not getting the best traction from what I can tell. He lives in Jacksonville.
I am thinking more about running that night, depends on whether I run that Sat at the Battle of the Imports at the Rock.

Re: Need help on building a 10 sec SS
I was informed by a pretty reliable source that the 98+ F-bodies have the Corvette servo's, right out of the box. Just an FYI.
BTW, save your money on porting the heads, and buy a cam. Port the heads later, if you don't have the cash to do both right now. If you want it to still sound stock, there's cams out there that can still do that.
