Default Ported/Descreened MAF - Hurt performance?

I just took the screen and ported my MAF [cut that middle peice out?] and the car feels slower?

Is it just my imagination or is this possible?

since you have an A4 it could be possible supposedly it'll affect your shifting....

yes you will have problems with it. The problem is that once you port it the computer cant get an acurate read on the air that is going into the engine and you will have a lean contition. An a4 car is going to have a ton of trans problems with shifting. There is a nice fix for it. You need a mass air translator to correct the air/fuel mixture. It cost 179 bucks new. Well i may have some good news for you i have one for sale. Im asking 100 for it shipped. Let me know.
The mod you just did is a common mistake into thinking there will be more power with it. Well yes there will be more power but you have to tune for that extra air to get the power.

I call Bullshit on this one. I have been running a !screened MAF for a year, with numerous bottles of N2O, sprayed thru the shifts and not one problem from it. At best do an idle relearn/PCM reset it and it will be fine. Dont listent to this garbage. If you do a search in this seciton you will see there was a debate, or shall i say several in the year I have been on here about this. it is all hype.

No offense to anyone. I have an A4 and descreened and like i said i have no problems, none of my friends, like 9 of us, and again read thru a few searches in here.

how do you do an idle relearn/pcm reset?

.. $100 for the stock MAF? the same thing that i just fux0red up? nah.. i'm sorry and don't take this the wrong way because its nothing against you [i'm sure thats a great price] but i'd rather put that $100 toward buying ls1edit so that my car will be improved.

More than 1/2 the cars I see getting poor performance on the dyno have molested MAF's on them.

I usually bring a stock MAF to dyno days now...

My nutzack, didnt read the ported part. hell i hate that, missing info. I retract my previous post, although I will leave for the daily reminder to myself to read. Yeah, I agree the porting thing is not for me or my MAF.

I some people have pointed out some cars react fine others react negatively to it.

If you do a search you can solder a resistor to try and bring things back inline again. I forgot what the post was titled but run a search for "resistor" or something of the sort and you should find it.

I didn't bother with it because I was afraid of something like this. I just polished the MAF ends and thats it.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

after it cooled down outside and i drove around a little more it didn't seem that i had decreased power anymore .. and i do think maybe my top end is a bit better. i'm going to keep it on a little longer and see. if not i'll buy an aftermarket maf

thanks for the help

Check your Ltrims and make sure you're not running lean. I did the same thing and my Ltrims went up to +23 - +25. I did that resistor mod and they went back down to around 0. Just solder in a 1/2 watt 1000 ohm resistor between the two metal strips on the sensor part of the MAF.

i dont know if this is gonna help but i bought some ported maf ends and descreened, put them on and its fine, my car feels strong now. my fuel trims are near anywhere from 2 to no higher than 6% the car feels A LOT stronger with slightly positive numbers. i dont know much about this but it feels great now im just keeping an eye on those fuel trims, if they get too high im gonna have diablo sport get me another tune to bring them near 0

Does anyone know if the LT1 (1995) and the LS1 (1998) MAF's are the same? I have a nice ported and descreened one from my LT1 motor and was half thinking it may work with my LS1.
