$300 a decent price to paint my hood?
I recently got a 3 inch glasstech cowl hood and I had to get it painted to match my car. Just a basic prep and paint job to match my car. I dropped it off at a local body shop that does some good work, he's going to prep, paint and shade it to match the car. Top and bottom. I thought it was pretty good, cause I saw some people on here getting charged like 500 or so for a hood. I'm in so cal and just wanted to know if that sounded about right.

Jus' because it's cheap doesn't mean it'll be jus' as good as a 600 dollar paint job. Sometimes the good ol' saying, "You get what you pay for." isn't true but to be sure, I would look at his previous work. Know of anybody that had their car painted by him? Check out the results.

yeah just with fiberglass it always needs atleast some primer and a good block especially before paint. i have a 4" glass tek cowl hood and it looks straight but its getting blocked then primed then blocked primed one more time and blocked again so that its absolulety straight and theres no worries. my buddy had a ws6 hood put on his t/a and all they did is prep and paint it. let me be the first to tell you it looks like **** especially since its black.

Mines costing $850 to bake, fiberglass if any spots need it, bake again, block sand, prime, paint, clear, wet sand and finally install and line it up perfectly. It's kind of an expensive place that works on higher end cars but like the old saying goes 'if youre gonna do it, do it right' and they might blend the fenders and headlight covers if their painter thinks it needs it, but they said the paint looks good so that probably won't be necessary

Decent price...maybe. It depends on what kinda quality you are looking for. Until you get the hood back its hard to say if you got a good deal but if it comes back with some flaws in it I suppose you got what you paid for. $300 for a hood in south cali sounds pretty cheap. Your best bet is to make him aware of your concerns on the final quality and outcome of the paint and body work and if you guys are on the same page as far as work and price I think you might just come out ok. Warranty is always good but I find it hard you would get one with that price, so just make sure you express your concerns and show him that you are picky when it comes to the work.
