Default Quick Question about PTV Clearance on my Set-up-

I curently have a TSP 233/239 .598/.603 112+2 LSA R2 Cam in my car, I am going to get some TSP Stg 2.5 5.3l heads (Might get the 317+ cfm "R" version) but need to know whats the LOWEST CC size and SMALLEST head gasket I can go with WITHOUT flycutting. 59cc w/ cometic .040. head gasket ok?? What will my DCR and SCR be at with that? I have moslty 91 octane in my area so keep that in mind, 93 is another 40 cents a gallon . Thanks guys.

You can fit that cam but unmilled heads and stock gasket, otherwise flycut.

Just the person I wanted to answer. I already have them cam but what you are saying is I cannot have the heads milled down or run .040 gaskets? Only GM MLS gaskets? Any idea what my compression ratio will be at?

What are size of the chambers in the heads?

Can I get away with a 62 cc? I would like to get a 10.9-11.0 scr if possible

that .2 increment in scr doesn't warrant the loss of PTV if you ask me and to get 11:1 you need 61.4cc chambers. Of course you can get the 5.3L with sunken valve, but that is another story, I'm not an advocate of those either.

Ok then, I will have TSP take them down to 62CC (or 61cc if I can even get away with that, I will ask them when I call) and use stock GM MLS gaskets. Now a quick question about pushrods, you were the one that told me to get 7.425's a while back for my cam only (and they worked GREAT, I have VERY LITTLE valvetrain noise), what size will I need now? 7.400's? Thanks again.

Tsp said I could PROB get away with a .010 mill on the 5.3l heads and a .040 gasket, does that sound right? That would kick *** if I could w/o flycutting.

Ask TSP what exactly your PTV values will be (intake/Exhaust)
If less than .070 intake, flycut, otherwise be ready for the worse (do you feel lucky?)

Lol, no not really, if anything I will run a stock MLS gasket and mill the heads to either a 60 or 61cc

For SAFE PTV, you should not mill and should run stock gasket.

When you say safe PTV you mean that if I over rev it wont kiss a valve?

Mechanical overev has no safety.

I mean that you'll have enough PTV margin in case you encounter any anomaly in your valvetrain (valve float, for exemple) the piston has enough space to be forgiving.

Here is one for you, what about leaving the 5.3l heads the stock CC size (TSP said they would do a LIGHT mill just to make sure the surface is even) and running a Cometic .045 gasket?
