Default Looking at 85,000 Mile WS6 - Should I worry about mileage

im looking at a 99 ws6 with 85,500 miles.. (deal might fall through on the 98 i was looking at). Should the mileage be a concern? I plan on having the car for some time.. It has a cam, suspension and all that good stuff, says he replaced the valve springs a few thousand miles ago. The car has alot of extras, so I'd rather have 20K more miles and more extras than may 3K more for a stock car with less miles, ya know? Tell me what you guys think, its got the 4spd auto, I just dont want anything breaking if I buy it.. Warranty dumdumdum lol.

Thanks everyone

You need to have a mechanic completely check out the engine, tranny and rear end before you buy it, thats all. Usually cars with performance mods are beaten up a bit.

If you don't you could be buying a pile of ****.

There's nothing inherently bad about 86k miles; I bout my Camaro with 77k. Obviously, it's going to have more wear, so wear items like brakes, plugs, fluids, etc, if not done recently, will have to be done pretty soon. As needadvice, you biggest concern should be how it was treated during those 85k miles or whether it was beaten on.

i bought mine with 77k now with 85k and, i just had to do the normal maintainance, and its better to have the 99 then the 98. also get the specs of the cam to! the bigger the cam is the harder its been on the motor

There are companies here that specialize in checking cars out from bumper to bumper. I think they charge about $250 and they usually spend about 3-4 hours checking everything.

Mileage doesn't scare me so long as the car is in good condition.

But here are the numbers: Comp 224/224 .581/.581 114lsa cam with Manley push rods (i know the push rods arent the cams ) Here's some other engine mods: Patriot Gold double springs, and Kateck ported oil pump. Awesome streetable cam. -SDPC double roller timing chain -SLP lid W/Holly air filter -LS6 intake -SLP's high-performance 85mm mass-air-flow sensor -Ported throttle body -ASP under drive pulley -30lb (red top) injectors -Holly 255lr fuel pump -NGKtr 55 plugs -Taylor wires

the car looks goood. it is a nice streetable cam that can pass smog! it has alot of mods! but try to get a good deal on it, remember mods dont increase the value of the car, and also find out info on where the cam was done at? the engine has been opened up b4 for a cam so you never know whether a good job has been done

Looks like a really nice ride. Nice mods (mild cam, good supporting modifications). Interior looks pristine! I'd check it out in person. Take it for a drive...do you hear any strange ticks, knocks, grinds, etc. Does it shift nice without slipping. Get underneath it - are there any leaks? Ask if it's been tuned and if there are any dyno sheets.

Figure out why the springs were replaced too. If it was a precaution or if one broke and tore up some other **** with it. It's a smaller cam so probably didn't break anything but you never know and hopefully you get the truth. Oh and how many miles has the cam been in there? And ever sprayed?

Viper: I'm on Long Island, NY
Asking price is 13K
There's a BUTTLOAD of other work done.. new aftermarket sound system, crapload of suspension work:
"Suspension: -Autofab coil over system with QA1 adjustable shocks -BMR tublar K member -The car is lowered (not sure what kit) -HPA sub frame connectors -BMR strut tower brace -Lower control arms and relocating brackets Rear: No drips or anything. Feels solid. Stock 3.23's"
umm.. He said most/all mods were done around 60K miles including the engine rebuild, valve springs 6000 miles ago..
Thing is, the 98 WS6 (car I was originally going to get) is at a dealership.. Im waiting til friday for a house to close so I have money for the car.. (bday present, im paying for half) and the guy at the dealer calls EVERY DAY lying about people looking at the car. There's some scuffs and scratches on the 98, and he denies that a speaker is blown but you can clearly hear it. Thats why i'm looking at this 99 I showed you guys. I hate it, there's like 15 nice Camaros/Firebirds/Trans Ams around here and about 200 mustangs.

Yeah i'm definitely gonna check it out one day, take it for a drive.. Although I only have a permit O_O
Like I said, it's got exhaust, engine, suspension, and stereo mods done.. I'd say its worth somewhere around 13k like he's asking.. maybe a TAD less.
Slayerized I see your on longisland.. Don't steal my car! hahah

Btw thanks guys, ever since I joined LS1 Tech i've been getting alot of help, I like it here.

I'm in my mid 16's, i've already sold my first 87 Camaro w/ a 350 lol.. I spoke with him this morning and he said he was going to be honest, and that he has run the car at the track 6 times. Best time was 11.84 O_O Regardless of how fast the car is, i'm not going to be flooring it all around town, 'cause I like living.. I'd rather take a year to get used to the car then to "drive fast" and smash into something. He said all the modifications were done about 20k miles ago. Should I have to worry about the cam putting stress on the engine? Or is it mild enough
