New engine cooler + new fluid = water pump start to leak
This is about a 98 Trans Am, 10 years old, 90'000 miles.
I never replaced the coolant, never had a leak.
Last weekend I installed a LT1 cooler (they are 40% thicker than those installed in LS1 cars), flushed the system and filled it up with a local brand fluid.
The fluid is for aluminum engines, it's ethylene glycol based and gives the same freezing protection than the GM product.
Result: now the water pump is leaking from the shaft seal.
Coincidence?
The seal doesn't like the new fluid?
Flushing the system also removed a healthy layer of dirt that helped the pump to be sealed?
Thanks for any help
Stefano
