Default PAC SWI-PS and my 2001 TA

After adding the aftermarket Pioneer 5000 to my 01, I soon realized I needed my Steering wheel controls to work again. Its hard to go back to turning a **** after having the steering controls.

I ordered the PAC SWI-PS from Crutchfield canada online. Ordered sunday delivered to my mailbox on Friday delivery free of charge. Cost was 79.99 plus tax.

Installation was pretty straight foward, only 3 wires. Power, ground, steering control wire.

Programming is pretty easy as well.
Here is what my buttons do.

Vol and mute buttons are usual.

Play, is now source or On/Off if its held down.

Seek Up/Down changes songs within an album up/down.

When using mem USB stick-
Preset Changes albums up.
Band Changes albums down.

Performance, after just a little testing the response is just as quick as factory.

Overall, I'm very impressed!

For those who plan to do this the unit connects to the Blue wire in pin number #14 on the factory harness. I just tapped into that wire with the green from the PAC.

It is a nice little box to have. I have noticed it can be a little flakey at times though. Every now and then 1 or 2 functions quit working and it has to be reprogrammed. Also, I wish they would have a added a small internal battery to store the settings in case you have to disconnect your car battery.

It doesn't need a battery because the settings are stored in non-volatile flash memory. You can leave it disconnected for weeks and it will still retain its programming.

Hmmm....that's odd. I must have a unit with amnesia, because mine loses it's settings when the battery is disconnected for awhile. It could be a flakey box because like I stated earlier, every so often I have to reprogram it because 1 or 2 settings quit working even while it's connected to the battery.

For the power and ground I just tapped into the red wire off the deck for power and the black for ground.

Beware when first programming the PAC that after first connecting it you may have to open your door to shut down the power to the car. Otherwise you might not be able to program it to series 1. It requires you to hold the prog button down when you turn the key to the on position, but the unit had to have zero power going to it. This f'd me up for a couple minutes until I realized the unit was still getting power cause the acc delay was still on.

Out of curiosity, how long does it take to install? Been thinking of doing this for a while now.
