My car runs like crap with the new engine. My tuner said that the cam could be retarded too much but I am sure that it was installed as the cam card said, he also said it could be overtightened valves. The car likes to buck a lot and has almost no power and it stalls at low rpms even with a TON of added ign timing without any detonation. Does this sound like overtightened valves at all?

What lifters did you use and how did you adjust them?

I have the ones from lingenfelter they are melling ones. And I tightened them using the finger tight the pushrods then add a 1/4 turn . The rockers are adjustable non self aligning.

By "finger tight" can I guess you mean you could feel drag spinning them?? If so that is your problem, you WAY WAY overtightened.

At 0 lash should be 1/4 to 1/2 turn load put on them.

Problem is finding zero lash, not how much preload to put on them after that. If the valvetrain is setup right anything from 0-1 full turn will generally work for preload, but if they could not properly fins ZERO first it doesn't matter.

With polyloacks spinning the nut down till it touches, not even finger tight is zero lash. By the time you actually crank on it atall with your fingers you have added a little preload. By the time you feel drag on well oiled pushrods spinning you are probaly beyond a full turn of preload.

Yeah man, zero lash is that point when you just lose up/down free plan in the pushrod between the lifter and rocker cup. I like to start with a VERY loose rocker, and slowly tighten down the nut as a move the pushrod up and down, and when you feel it stop moving, there's zero lash. If you try to spin the pushrod it's GOING to be loose, but it won't have any up/down movement which is the big thing. Then, depending on the lifter, set your pre-load.

I reajusted the valves by doing it till i could not move the rocker up and down but and it runs quite a bit better.
