Exclamation Guidplates with SA rockers

Would anything bad happen if I ran my heads with guidplates?

I bought a set of heads on here and they have guidplates already installed, and I'm just gonna use my stock rockers. So, if I don't need to take them out, I'll just continue my build.

Thanks in advance.

I don't see anything wrong with it.. I have comp 1.6 SA roller rockers and i'm running guideplates.. but i am also running hardened pushrods (may want to invest in those.. not expensive at all - cheap insurance)

I agree!!

The pushrods will bind, then grind themselves into oblivion, depositing the residue in the engine.

The "cheapest" solution...Buy a set of "old style" replacement rockers at your auto parts store, and use them instead of the SA pieces.

Highly doubt it would be so dramatic.. I've been running guideplates with SA RRs for a while with no issues...

With all due respect, that is wrong

You will either wear a slot into the guide plates side to side ot wear the tip of the valve stem...or both.

There is nothing wrong with running guidplates and SA roller rockers as long as you have hardened pushrods, they both do the same thing.

using SA rockers with guide plates is similar to an old man wearing a belt with suspenders.....i would ditch the SA rockers and get NSA and hardened pushrods....

It's not similar to an old man with a belt and suspenders lol.. but yeah there will be no problem as long as you have hardened pushrods at the correct length (check length using a tool)

That's why you shouldn't really make your final decision based on a forum. you will get so many different answers, and many of them can be true on numerous accounts. So do as you wish (to the original poster)

it's not weather it will work or not it 's the fact that you don't need both.
if you want confirmation ask Lloyd Elliot,Ai or a machine shop..

I know I don't need guidplates with SA rockers. What I'm saying is that the set of heads I bought already have them installed and if there is no need to take them out then I'll leave them. Just so we are all on the same page.

My plans have changes with the build and its going back to a stock engine pretty much. It seems like a giant waste of time since the engine is completely out of the car to now just change gaskets and some other parts.

I'll just take the guidplates out and be done with it.

Will I have to put a washer under the stud to compinsate for the plate not being there?

Thanks for all your feedback guys.

P.S. anyone want some guidplates, lol.

no washer needed...ask any of the big guys problem is it puts a buncha stress on the pushrod/guideplate/rocker/lifter...because the rocker might want the pushrod straight up and down...but the guideplate might want it at a slight angle...now they are fighting and taking it out on the other parts...

the rocker will alogn it itself where it wants the pushrod...the guideplate will also IF its nsa and the rocker is free to move around...maybe yall can picture that

Just an "FYI", the OE LT-1 studs, (you are talking LT-1, right?) have a "washer" built into their shankk, so they don't simply thread all the way down into the tapped hole. At least the ones on my '96 Z-28 were that way, as the holes for the studs are heli-coiled part way, about 3/8", the same as the stud diameter. If you didn't have the "washer" on the stud, you'd go down into the "tang" on the heli-coil, etc.

I ran into this situation when I switched to long ARP studs and poly-locks, when I installed my roller rockers.

What rocker arm studs are they 7/16" or 3/8"?

I just bought a set of worked over stockers. They have 3/8'' studs in them.

I'm just worried that if I take those guideplates out that the rocker will just that much lower and when the valve opens it will smack my piston.

My heads have also been milled .01''.
