Default HHR SS Turbo and intercooler

I'm new to the turbo world but I was wondering if you folks think that 50+ hp is easy to make with stock turbo systems. The HHR SS comes with 260 HP and 260TQ. Do you think it would be hard to get a little more out of it? HP Tuner is working on getting a tuner made for these vehicles soon.

Not sure if any of you Turbo Pros can tell me what size turbo it has on it. If you can that would be great.

Thats just it, I want to do it safely but I think I need to know what the stock turbo can dish out.
I'll read on what a Boost controller does and where it plugs into.

I found a Hahn Turbo controller made for the Cobalt and HHR SS's. Some people just with an exhaust and intake change are running mid 13's or better. I will have to wait for these items and will take the HHR to the track to get the stock times and report back. I will also dyno it to see hp and tq levels stock.

You can get an HHR SS turbo. I think it is real similar to the Sky Redline, Solstice GXP setup, FWD though.

Yes, it is 2.0L Direct Injection 260 hp with manual, 250 with auto. If you are feeling froggy, you can access the turbo, it has an internal wastegate. Adjust the rod, shortening it will produce more boost. They are 19-20 psi. stock. So you should take appropriate safeguards by installing a reliable boost gauge, and wideband o2 sensor. HP tuners would be an excellent choice too. You can't just start changing things without a way of monitoring those changes. More is not always better!

Stocker is BW K04. Good for ~300cfm, and piddles out well before the ECOTEC 2.0 it's bolted to. I've got an '08 SS with the Hahn/BSR tune on it, which puts it at 312hp according to Hahn's site. It's night and day different from stock flash to tune.

We had one on the dyno the other day...made 247 stock with a manual and a downpipe upgrade, and 295 whp with the tune. Im pretty sure the boost can be controlled by Hp Tuners also. Is it true that the direct injection motors can be run at a leaner a/f ratio than normal?

I don't have one, but my buddy does. What upgrades are out there for the HHR SS? He has a manual.

You can get away with more timing/more compression/less fuel. Its all a balancing act of those factors. In general direct injection lets you get more power out of a smaller motor.

the LNF is a good engine that responds pretty damn good to mods, been hearing great things about hahns exhaust and bsr tune. only down fall of the LNF is the same as the LSJ its 350 hp limit. give or take a few. thats where IMHO the mitsu 4G63 is the best boosted 4 cylinder engine ever. capable of handling 500whp w/ stock internals.

reflash and intake and exhaust should be around 50hp easy. Don't do a boost controller without a reflash.

Just to add, GM is coming out with a stage kit for the LNF. http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20291

315hp for manual, 290hp for auto.

And the auto is only 230hp, not 250hp. Why you'd pay more for less horsepower is beyond me.

That link also says 1st Qt of 2009 for the kit. Hopefully you'll get to keep your warranty.
