Default High Performance Pontiac - 427CI - 9 second F-body

Anybody read the article on the ls1 race car in High Performance Pontiac this month..? It did 9.03 in the 1/4 mile...

The use of parts seemed good - Callies crank = 4.0, LS6 ported heads, sheetmetal intake, ....

An intereted article on the Gen 3...a surpising thing considering the BS articles that have recently be published in other so-called hot rod magizines...

...they used a very small cam for a racer, however, - like a 224/224...with a 572/572 lift

Is this a misprint?

No way they used a cam that small unless they had a huge shot of nitrous to piggy back it

...well the car did have a NOS setup ...the 1/4 mile stats were provided in the article in both modes, (i) naturally asirated, and (ii) on laughing gas...

...I would like to have a street car this bad *** ... you would totally rule the road..!!!

Is it the "Big Red" TA from the East Coast?

That guy posts on here once in a while.

It has a C5R block.

This one is red and has a C5R 427 motor (4.0 Callies crank)

...the owners have a speed shop in Jersey...it is called B-R Racing and it is located in Trenton NJ...apparently, they are not a sponsor...

The cam specs listed in the article are:

229/229, 578/578, 114LSA

They take you through the various stages of development starting with the stock displacement moving through the transition to the big 427...

..Is it possible that they got the earlier cam and not the cam that is running with the C5R block....?

...this cam seems too small for the big motor; right?

Guys, this car is owned by Buster Brashier. His shop is in NJ (Buster's Auto). It is an MMS 427 C5R Block and LS6 Heads. Runs a serious shot of NOS. I tuned this car for Buster. It's a strong car and has more there. Stay tuned...

Heck of a great guy too. I just hope I can get him on the light by a full second...

Mikey

Mikey:
Can you confirm the published specs for the cam that is currently running in the 427 motor?

These hot rod mags are notorious for getting incorrect information.

...not to be critical ...but if the motor is an MMS and the tune was performed by Mickey then I assume Buster buys all his parts and labor from others....maybe he is good with wrenches, however...

The time was posted on the board a while ago, was like a 9.3 I thought.

This is the car with the 4" VFN hood right?

Ok, heres to set the record straight. There are no misprints in this article, more specifically that is the correct camshaft numbers, also, robertbartsch, every little bit of work on this car has been done by myself and my son (other than of course the block). Secondly, yes it is Big Red from the East Coast. Also can't forget Mikey, he did an awesome job tuning, and is a cool guy as well. As far as numbers, you posted incorrectly, the magazine clearly says 9.31,and 145.8mph, not 9.03. And just so you know, we are currently doing an S/R conversion to run 8.xx's hopefully this fall. I don't normally post on sites, but i do read the messages.

Wow! Congrats! I'm old enough to remember when dragsters driven by the "Big Boys" ran in the 8's. I would really like to have seen your 9.31 run. If someone would have told me 40 years ago that a full bodied door car would run 9's someday, I would have thought they were nuts!

Keep up the good runs!

BRacing:
Nice article, nice car, nice work.

Question:
Have you considered using a bigger cam or is the current cam the optimal stick for the big motor?

i think that's what he was meaning when he said "s/r conversion" as in Solid Roller. Will definitely be cool!

What is the advantage of a solid roller; i assume it can rev higher; right?

Is it also lighter and can have a more aggressive cam lobe...??

I suppose u need adjustible rockers too...
