Re: ????????
I don't think that cam is too big for an A4. I think any cam will benefit from tuning, including the 216/220. I do at least a TR220 or a Andy/Hammer cam 222/222, if I were you.
BTW - I would favor a bigger cam with tuning. As mentioned, springs, pushrods, timing chain, oil pump etc are all nice to do. The oil pumps in the 01's like you have seem to fail less often than the older ones. Doing an oil is a peace of mind mod not an actual must do. While your doing the cam it's also a good time to do an underdrive pulley if your going to do one.
Best of luck

Re: ????????
I recently had that cam installed. You will need tuning.
I should have went with the Comp Cams LS6 Street Replacement cam 212/218 .558/.563 115LSA. It would have made more power and requires no tuning.

Re: ????????
The 216/220 Comp Cam is a torque monster...you will gain lots up top without losing your low end power. It will idle much better than a larger cam, and will pass emissions no prob. I highly receommend tuning for any cam swap. It has less lift than most, so you're valvetrain will be much quieter, and will last a long time before needing replacement. Also because of the low lift it has a very flat torque curve, but still pulls past 6k no problem with the right support components. Sure you will gain more power with a TR220 or similar...
So, to your question if this is a good mild cam, my answer is hell yes!

Re: ????????
do a 220/220 114 cam.. anything on 114-115LSA requires less tuning then 112-109LSA's
you want something that you can actaully feel or hear. I doubt you feel any gain on topend with that cam though. Maybe 15hp? You just wanna do it right the first time. Its the same with converters. Most want 2800stalls, then 4months later they all have 4400 stalls cause they went to small.
if you want a 216/220, i'd up it to a 218/218 or a 220/220. Its not much bigger, but a happy medium for years to come.
I still say that 216/220 cam(I have yet to see one that doesnt to idle/run perfect) is gonna need tuning, so you you might as well go a little bigger!

Re: ????????
You may want to go with a little more cam.
That one is tame .
You gotta do springs, everthing else is highly recommended.
I.E.; push rods, retainers, timing chain,& oil pump.

I run a 224/224 .563 114 with no idle issues.
What about when coming to a stop, any idle hunting or misbehavior? Most importantly, how are cold starts, and hot starts, and A/C issues at those times? Is the TR224 really a cam that doesn't require you to change any stock habits? Thanks, I think this will help a lot for many people...

Re: ????????
Ed, or others with this cam, do you have any other drivability issues? I realize you can tune for a good idle, but more important, what about 2k-3k rpm accelerating...is it more tq than stock, i.e., did you lose anything down low or gain a lot under 3k as well?

On cold starts I have to let it run for a few seconds (Very Rich). Then it is fine. Hot Starts are fine. A/C has no issues. No surging.
If it wasn't for the slight lope. I wouldn't notice the cam.

Re: ????????
You could go for a MTI Stealth 220/220 .581/.581 115lsa. That is going to be my choice for my A4. The power curves on this cam are broad and it pulls till 6500 yet very docile at idle.
