If 1 5/8" are crap or not much better than manifold how do you explain my car's performance with midlength 1 5/8"??? and the fact I gained a solid half second when I put them on??

Point being most posters are dim witted bench racers.

I have to agree with 96capricemgr. Depending on the combination 1 5/8" headers could be the ideal size. You just can't go around making blanket statements. It has to do with exhaust gas velocity and scavanging.

Thats fine, but when it comes to down to the cost difference 1 3/4" is dumdumdum! Maybe you should climb out from under the blanket's and do a SEARCH!

*Also I don't bench race, my opinions are based on result's from having both!

I can see the 1 5/8 helping with low-end Torque..but once you get some cubes in there it's only going to help so much before you run into a wall..

No shi* I second this. My mac mids made a huge difference over the stock manifolds.

also at the same time i can see why torque might help the caprice out a little more than an F-body as we dont weight nearly as much as those boats so maybe for your application the mids are better.

and i do think saying the 1-5/8" suck is like saying an aftermarket intake sucks. sure it might not be as good as the 'best' intake but its sure better than the restrictive *** air box.

It does not have anything to do with cost. I'll say it again. It has to do with the combination. What is the best for a particular set up. It might be that 1 5/8" would be best or 1 3/4" would be best.

There was a tri-y vs.quads debate on the Impala board the other day, one guy finds that long tube quads made more power on a bolton car another finds that midlength tri-ys work better on a 9 second nitrous stroker. Each guy had tried the other header option and came up with completely conflicting results.

I tried Tri-Ys on my car too and saw no substantial difference, though I am not particularly good about tracking things.

My best run ever though is with the 1 5/8" mids through 2.5" magnaflows.

I find it comical that you guys place so much importance on 1 3/4" LONGtubes for HP when longer is better for low rpms, the right the rpm the shorter the primary needs to be. BUT that is all bench racing and the theoretical best header is unlikely to actually fit a street chassis.

In my experiance the 1 5/8" mids are working well, if you want to pretend they are a handicap then let's imagine what it would do with the "right" headers.

Quick Reply: 1 3/4 Headers??
