I thought only a few of them came with the actual LS6 block and the rest had the regular LS1 block.

That is true from all the threads on tech and everything. It was the ones that were made later because they ran out of the LS1 block so they used the LS6 block, its a different shade of gray and has a different part number on the back.

Yeah I have read that before, but it seemed like Ryne meant all.

01 camaro/vettes have something called the ls6 common block, the blocks is essentially the same (ie rods, pistons, crank), like i said the differences lie in the camshaft, and heads

Then why everywhere on tech does everyone ask about checking to see if they have a LS6 block? Aren't the oil passages different or something to that extent. Thats what I always read on here.

IIRC the main bay to bay windows are better or oil passages are better for oil windage or something like that.

Yeah thats what it was, but I heard there is less structural rigidity because of that, therefore the LS1 block can take a bit more abuse if you really push them, could be wrong though but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that somewhere here on tech.
