Default Detonation Sucks

First pass blew the tires off, Second pass I pulled the nitrous way back, still spun a little but cut a 1.42 60'
The 1/8 was ok down about 1 mph then it layed down hard on the big end, only trapped 135. It didnt show lean on the logs. Next pass it goes lean and detonates HARD. It appears the fuel pump layed down on me, I changed the pump but I cant try it until I get some more plugs they will be here tomorow. I cant believe that there are no signs that I pushed any water. How the heads didnt lift I will never now. Cometics dumdumdum. I wont know for sure until I lean on it again but every other time I lifted a head I new right away. I never heard it detonate like that before. Funny part is it idled fine with the plugs toasted. Sorry the pics a little blurry.

Id bet its rich and the back 2 pistons( probably the 2 plugs with nothing) have melted ring lands and the others have pistons that look like you bead blasted them with rocks on the exhaust side. id als0 bet the head has some damage around the back 2 plugs( probabbly not fatal). Leak it down now. If you had decent pressure on the seat it may have tuliped the exhaust valve. also.

a tell tail sign it hurt the piston is the grayish white smoke. It looks almost like tire smoke thats the oil burning with the nitrous . fuel is dark smoke like a deisel truck.

it will show signs of detonation but only cause it burned the oil.

How much timing are you running?

Plugs are numbered left to right in the picture 1,3,5,7 2,4,6,8
#6 & #8 are the one blown off.
It really was lean not rich. I ran it on motor after the nitrous pass and you could watch the A/F go up as the rpm did.it was at 14 when i got out of it.
As far as major damage from detonating that hard I am sure there is plenty. I just cant believe it didnt pop the headgaskets.

Tr8, 16 degree timing, 1/3 e85 with the torco fuel aditive

I have no idea. At this point I have no reason to pull the heads. It pushed no water. I only have to make it until the end of next month and I have plans to have Weber racing do another engine for me. Want to get away from the weight of the iron block

With plugs looking like that I can't imagine how that thing is still in good shape.... if it stays together for 2 more runs I'd be surprised.

What kind of a kit are you running?

you would be amazed what they will do.
my buddy melted EVERYTHING i meen so bad it pretty much welded the plugs inside the head. we had to pull the heads and re tap holes!! and everything on top looked good and he ran it the rest of the season and it didnt loose anything.
then ive seen plugs come out just barly touched, but the pistion has a hole in it

In that case..... I still dunno how that's still together. Your buddy's motor, that's a mystery too.

I believe it. I have seen stock motor's eat pistons for absolutely no reason, so at this point nothing surprises me

the kit is a custom dry nozzle I made. I have ran it for two years. I have ran this same tuneup all summer without issue. Only thing I did change was I went from a #7 to a #8 plug.

Going to a colder plug isn't gonna hurt anything.

Do a compression check/leakdown on it, maybe it's not hurt at all, or if it is it may be salvagable, but running it again without checking, could ruin any good parts that are still in there.
