Default Fuse box open areas

Can I use the open areas in the fuse box on right side of dash to wire in an Escort Radar Detector? Is there different amperage ratings for each slot? I am wondering if they are all 12v? Is the screw holding the fuse box to the firewall a good ground?
Thanks in advance,

Every car is 12 volts unless its going threw a amplifier then its converted to AC. As for the amps the fuse is rated at, all this does is protect the wiring. So if your radar detector is 5amps @ 12 volts then you will blow a 1 amp fuse. I'm just using these numbers hypotheticly. I havn't lookd at the fuse box so i'm not sure what slots you are reffering too. but if you have the ON-star mirror you can wire it into the power from it without worrying about the fuse or wiring as the detector draws little power or just make your own wire from the positive side of the battery into the cabin and then put a negative some where on the body where its not painted and secured. IF you do it this way install a inline fuse about 12 inches or closer to the battery side of the connection this prevents everything after the fuse from being damaged so the closer the fuse is to the battery the better.

I just guessed and tapped into an already fused wire down there...and then grounded it to a screw behind the plastic trim:

I played the guessing game too. Tapped a wire under the dash and grounded it to a ground wire for my XM tuner. Might have not been the best way but it's worked. If you're going to mount it up by your rearview mirror you could check out the invisicord product that just gets power from the back of the harness for your mirror. Installs in 5 seconds(I just happen to have one you could take off my hands too).

I know, but I'm retarded when it comes to that stuff and at the time knew nothing at all about electrical car stuff. Plus anyone who wants mine can have it for free.
