Send it over to me!!
Intake manifold swap followed by springs and 1.8 roller rocker arm swap. Use the LS6 yellow springs, with Viton PC seals and any bolt-on rocker. If you don't plan on ever changing the camshaft, then go with the LS1 intake. It is a little better up to 5000rpm, after that the LS6 rocks up to 6500.
I loved my LS1 intake, with the stock cam and rockers. The engine was very snappy!
Headers will add a few hp up top, but you would get more of a gain with the intake manifold and rockers.

I know it's not a fun/cheap mod but build your transmission(converter too), install a shift kit, get a big trans fluid cooler and get a tune.
Extra insurance for future mods, and a great drivability mod too.
