Default Do I need to up idle or cam surge?

I put a cc500 cam and 1.6 magnum rockers in my car along with a 58mm throttle body/manifold. I have no problems while accelerating, in fact it has amazing throttle response. I just noticed when sitting at a red light in drive the RPM fluctuates about 100RPM and sometimes as high as about 250-300RPM. This is my first cam swap and I figured that was normal now that I have a larger cam. I read up about cam surge and want to know if this sounds like a cam surge problem or a TPS/idle screw adjustment problem. I did not take a TPS reading before the throttle body swap. The throttle plates sit fully closed (factory aftermarket adjustment) and I have driven the car about 750 miles since swap.

I bought this cam because it did not require a tune. Or so the guy at summit told me. Its not a major problem, I actually like it when it happens (only once in a while) but, if it is bad for the engine I would like to fix it.

any size cam would be a great idea to get a tune!!! i bet it would clean that idle right up. A completely stock car should get a tune, it helps!

I've never heard of the CC500, but I wouldn't trust anything Summit says. Most of the time they'll say whatever to make you happy.

When you get a tune that should go away, any cammed car essentially requires a tune. I'm assuming that cam is pretty small so there is no reason for it to surge.

As you have experianced this cam is small enough to run on a stock tune but it wont run well.

As someone already said, a tune is a good mod on a stock car, you can not modify a car and expect it to run ideally on a stock tune.

Also sounds like you have an aftermarket larger TB, they all require modification to work right and if you have a A4 transmission running a bigger TB without a tune or shift kit will cause accelerated wear to the tranny because it is makeing more power at lower throttle angles and the tranny needs more line pressure to deal with it.

You need to stop trusting places like Summit for technical advise it will only end in disappointment. They are fine to buy from.

as mentioned, your PCM needs adjustment for the cam AND aftermarket TB.

You could put the stock TB on and see how the car runs. 58 mm TB may be more than your mods require.

After your new PCM tune for cam & larger TB you still have idle/surge issues than you will need to address the TB mod to correct the issue. Scan tool and volt meter is required to measure TPS and IAC counts

manual or automatic?? if you have an automatic with stock torque converter it will surge while sitting still everyonce and a while. buy a higher stall and it will go away. get it tuned for the throttle body and the cam x1,000,000!

the fuel tables need to be changed for the 58mm throttle body and for the cam definitaly

I have been told multiple times to get a tune. It is on the list of things to do. I just figured it would be best to tune after I put my headers I plan to install, on. I should be doing headers February or March.

What is a good tuner/programer for the F body?

Do not buy a handheld programmer they are garbage. Have PCMforless or MadTuner do your tuning needs. I've been happy with PCMforless myself.

Where are you located? There are good tuners all over the country, maybe we can recommend one close by.
