With that many miles, I would clean it too. Use electronic parts cleaner. Remove the MAF and spray the inside and make sure you spray the little wires in the middle. But, don't touch anything! Don't use any rags or napkins or wipe anything, just spray it down and let it dry. The little sensor wires are very easily damaged. You may feel a difference, or you may not notice anything at all, if you do, that only means that it's been dirty for a while.

Ok here is the deal. Clean it, but use a lint free wipe and maf cleaner. (q-tips can snag the ends of the elements, due to their material. Be careful and watch the ends of the elements.
