Default Anyone run a shorter belt instead of ac delete pulley?

Just need to know if anyone does it and if there are any problems. Also what size belt. I am swapping a LT1 into a 65 Skylark and am not using the ac or heater. Oh that reminds me. How do I recirculate the coolant that would normally go to the heater core back to the water pump since i'm using a heater.

Without a pulley in place of the A/C, you physically cannot route the belt. Not to mention, the A/C delete pulley is smaller than the A/C compressor, so you run a shorter belt anyway.

The water pump is driven off of the camshaft - there is no pulley.

Default had this

I was running A/C delete pulley and if you go to a good parts store, you should be able to find the right belt. If I remember right, the pulley that I used was off a mid 90's Caprice and we just used the serpentine off that. Not completely sure though, that was done 4 years ago.

Whether you need a different length belt or not depends on what vintage the original pulley was on your a/c compressor. There were two different sizes used over the years. The belt should end up being a 635-637 or 642.

For the OP, you now realize that you cannot run without at least an a/c delete pulley.

The heater hose nipples can be just closed off or you can loop a hose between them. Some people pull out the pipes, thread the holes and screw in a pipe plug.

I got my delete pulley from Summit and I was able to use my stock length belt.
