new setup complete!
haven't posted in here much, so thought i'd give you guys the lowdown. motor is a basic summit 383 setup, stock heads with very little porting. it had a custom T76GTS turbo kit made by Jordon Musser, a/a intercooler, 9" w/ 3.50 gears, and beefed up t56. since our 1/4 mi track had closed down a few years ago, all i have is 1/8 mi times. managed to squeeze a 6.80 out of it on 17" MT drag radials before switching to a th350 and an a/w intercooler. best pass with this setup was a 6.57@ 107mph!
at this time, the speed bug bit me (really hard). the guy that tunes the car (very bad influence) talked me into upgrading the turbo since it was just too small for the cubic inch we were working with. i, of course, took his word for it and started tearing it apart. GT4788 gets plumbed into the old kit. fast forward a year and a half and it's finally ready for action again. first time to the track was nothing but bad news! show up to the track, battery is dead. jump battery off and tried to fill it w/ c16, the nozzle to my gas can flew off on the way to the track. tested the transbrake, no boost control. decided to go ahead and see if we could get somewhat of a datalog and pulled up to the lanes. tuner says, "if it goes past 20psi, let out". foot braking it, i take off (eyes glued to boost gauge). vacuum, vacuum, 0psi, BAM 30psi. let off and grab second. vacuum, vacuum, 0psi, BAM 30psi. found out the wastegate had rusted shut over the year and a half nap. i've finally got everything working right and hope to make it back out to the track this friday.
sorry for the novel. here's some pics

update:
went to the local 1/8th mile friday night and ran better than expected. i really didn't figure we'd dip into the 6's on the first night out tuning from scratch, but we did. first pass on 7psi and 16* of timing netted a 7.53 w/ 9.6:1 a/f. knowing everything was extremely safe, we upped the boost to 10psi, dropped 12% of fuel and added 2* of timing resulting in a 7.21. since we still weren't really in the compressor map, we decided to try 17psi. at 17psi, 18* of timing and -15% on the fuel we ran a 6.73 @ 104mph. doesn't sound like much, but it was pig rich (10:1 a/f), no timing, and only my third pass in 2years in the car. next time out, she should fly!
oh yeah, this is in FULL STREET TRIM minus the ET Streets and front runners. a/c, heat, stereo, power leather seats, the whole 9! approx. 4000 lbs. w/ me in the car!

Uhhh...I think you typed something in different. 9.6:1 is safe and 10.1:1 is pig rich? Just wondering what safe is. I had heard 12:1 is good at full boost. Am I wrong?

since we were starting from scratch, 9.6:1 was a safe starting point. extremely rich, but safe. 10.1:1 is still pig rich according to my plugs. on the last setup, we targeted 11.8:1 to keep everything together. i'm quite positive this motor won't last too long, so we're trying to keep from going lean too soon. hope that makes sense.

update:
went to the West Texas True Ten Five race sat. and managed to hit a 6.372 @ 110mph w/ a 1.47 60'! 10.3:1 a/f and 21* timing. it appears i'm blowing out the spark at anything above 20psi. left the line w/ 13psi, came in w/ 20psi off the transbrake and 2 seconds into the run brought it up to 25psi. first gear felt strong, but as soon as i shift to second, it noses over slightly. bought some colder plugs to hopefully remedy the situation. this is still extremely on the safe side as far as the tune goes and the car weighed in at 3848 lbs! not bad for the second time to the track w/ this setup.
