6 speeds are more fun to drive but atleast you aren't breaking your rear end. And you have the advantage from a dig. Have you thought about doing gears and a stall converter? That would make it a whole different animal. But if your set on a 6 speed, you can do the swap for less than $1500 and it's not that hard. Or I have been seeing LT1 cars DIRT cheap here lately.

Vette is probably worth more, even in the condition it is in, which is fair to poor in my opinion, but it would be a long lasting pain in your neck to own THAT Vette I think. In a case like this, it isn't about which car is worth more, but who wants what more. It is getting harder to find nice F-bodies and Vettes tend to be the other way around. They cost too much to begin with to regularly trash like the F-bodies tend to get doomed to. Anyway, it really is up to you and what you want. I wouldn't look at the money because you could probably sell the Vette for more than you would get for your bird, but the bird is better/nicer than people will ever be willing to pay for it.

Having owned a 90 vette M6, a 92 vette vert m6, a 94 ta auto, a 95ta auto, a 99 ta m6 and now a 96 vette m6 If yours is in very good shape I say keep it. The 90 vettes are neat and can do some fun things but that one looks a little rough, plus its a vert. Chasis flex is a **** on the C4 verts. Some of the good points are that with the manual you get a dana 44 rear end, the ZF6 trans is very stout and the L98 is still just a sbc.
They are not cheap to keep in pristine condition. The 90 models had a couple specific issues with the airbag sensors losing ground conections and setting the airbag lights off. Not a hard fix but something to be aware of. Also, they are notorious for having inaccurate tachometers. Some can fix them with a tach filter change but most of the time its the inst cluster (re:ex$pen$ive). If it were me I'd hold out for an lt1 vette or just get a 6 speed F body. There are some real deals out there right now. LT4 vettes are going for under 10k. There is a really clean looking 96 firebird formula ws6/m6 at a local dealer here for 6k.

For me personally I say do it. There is nothing like a 6-speed convertible. That vette has a monstrous M6 in it. I forget what it is, but it's not a T56. I think ZF6 or something. TPI motors are EXCELLENT street motors. They make great torque but they are all done by 5000rpm. Yes your car might be faster but the vette is worth more, and in 5 years it will be worth a lot more and keep going up. After all it is a 'Vette and they are almost always more desireable.
'Vette's are easier to work on too, the motor isn't buried under the dash. They handle amazing, the interiors are full leather, chicks dig them, etc......
I guess you need to pick what your goals are with the car. If 1/4 mile performance is at the top, then keep the T/A, because the 'vette will struggle to keep up.
