Kooks LT?

Kooks LT?
Guys I was about to pick up some kooks and noticed a few different ones. One was just a 1 3/4 primary to 3 collector, and one was 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 with a 3 collector. What advantage/disadvantage does the stepped header have. Which one do you guys have experience with and suggest for my set up, keeping in mind a sc will be going in with the new motor next year. I want something I can reuse. Also, what about the coating? Would it be necessary on a stainless header? Thanks in advance guys.

O.K. I'll take a stab, just don't qoute me on this...
Stepped headers offer more low-midrange torque and hp but depend on your engine set-up to take advantage of peak performance from what I understand.
Some coatings make more power by holding heat in the engine but I don't think you would want to coat Stainless headers?
hopefully someone will chime in with more.
If nothing more this was a long way to type "bump"!

I use to have Jet-hot LT's coated and after about 4 years some of the coating started to flake and the material being metal started to rust. Buying Kooks you won't have to worry about rust. You can get the headers in a 3.5inch collector as well. Here is a pic of my 13/4 to 17/8 Kooks headers coated. Just b/c they are stainless doesn't mean they won't benefit from a nice coating.

I'm certainly no expert, but when I was researching my headers, everything I could find, which wasn't much, seemed to indicate stepped headers didn't really offer any benefit, and could even be a detriment. Maybe for an extreme build, they might offer some sort of advantage, but at that point I'm not sure why you wouldn't just go with a 1 7/8" header. Bigger isn't necessarily always better. I also got my Kooks coated with Jet Hot's Extreme Sterling.

For anyone wanting regular 1 3/4" headers, LPP's aren't an option. Also, aren't their Kooks clones on EBay that are even cheaper than LPP's?

Kooks must hate these *****, and whoever manufactures the EBay clones that are even cheaper. Something about that just doesn't seem right. But even if they were patented, I guess patents eventually expire.

If Kooks is suffering because of these other companies producing similar headers for less $$$, then they might need to take a step back and re-evaluate things. With the suffering economy and the many empty wallets out there it only makes sense why people steer away from them and go with something comparable at a lower price.

From an ethical standpoint, I can understand being pissed off if someone simply cloned my product and undercut my price. My personal opinion is that's what happened in this case, as well as with the people selling Kooks clones even cheaper than the LPP's on EBay. Oh well. I guess that's life, and it doesn't appear to be limited to Kooks products. As far as I can tell, Kooks quality control, as well as their customer support, appears to be superior, and I guess that's worth something.

From what I understand you won't notice any real gain from a stepped header on a street motor. The 1 3/4" primaries are plenty. Easier to install too for clearance reasons IIRC.
