Looked at 94 Trans Am--Questions
I drove a 94 Trans Am M6 the other day that I'm considering buying. It's only got 43,000 original miles, but the rear end clunked terribly over bumpy/rough roads. What would cause this? It looked as though it still had the stock orange DeCarbon shocks on it. The guy wants $5500 for it, the body is perfect with no winters, but the interior is a little beat up. The wheel also pulls to the right pretty bad.
Is that a fair price? Sounds like it needs shocks/struts and maybe other suspension work. Any info is appreciated.

^true, I bought mine with 39,000 miles and the interior looked immaculate and still does with 46,000 on it. The first thing to show some wear is the left hand side of the drivers seat from sliding in and out of these things

Also i mean these cars are pieces of crap. you can make them fast but you will spend a ton of money. if you can't tell, i regret buying mine. lol. If its just a beater and something to drive around and beat the **** out of then thats cool, but don't get it as a DD

So you get it now right? Buy it! The clunk most likely doesn;t have anything to do with the rear end. Probably shocks. Gear up to swap the rear shocks, plugs, plug wires, and the OptiSpark cover for an MSD which make for a really shitty weekend, and then laugh your way through the next 75K miles. Killer car, killer price, minor sweat equity...and beat the all Mustangs *** into next week forever.

When I say the interior is a little rough, the seats are ok. It's just dirty and couple panels are haning loose. Mainly the panel under the steering column and the panel with the power buttons on the side of the driver's seat is hanging off. Not sure how east that is to fix.
I forgot to mention the rear tires are shot too.
The clunk is not on acceleration and shifts. It happend over bumps and on a couple really rough roads I drove down. Mainly it was from the driver's side rear wheel area. Could be shocks and bushings, it has the origianl DeCarbon shocks.
Is $5500 fair if it needs those interior panels fixed, a front alignment, suspension work, and 2 new tires? I thought that was a little high considering the work it needs.
I would verify the 43,000 with a Carfax for sure!

I think it does (pending a carfax check) but yes I agree the guy did not take care of it. He bought it with 36,000 miles 8 years ago. He hasn't driven it much for the last 3-4 years. The clunky suspension, bad tires, and dirty interior tell me it was not well cared for. Granted, this stuff can be fixed and I can do it all myself, but I thought $5500 was too much. I was also thinking closer to $4500 given what it needs. Any more than that I think one can be found that is better maintained. If he goes down to $4500 I'll take it otherwise I'll pass. He was pretty firm on $5500 so we'll see what happens. Thanks for all the input!

I have a 94/M6/leather (93&94 with leather is a GT model) Blue book should be about 4,300 last i checked. Mine does not have perfect paint, The driver seat is torn, The dash is about right for its age, Few misc electrical issues. But with everything working, And few mods such as lowering intake and exhaust roll cage i picked it up for $3,250. Full tune up later its a good car. so its up to you. I jumped on the car because it had the mods i wanted. I do not like OBD2 cars they cost more to repair emissions wise. But i can tell you i love my 94 just make sure what needs to be done. Buying mine from a guy with no mechanic skills i had to. Detail it,full tune up, replace missing items such as fog lights trim pieces, rewire things such as stereo, Now im looking into a clutch. But if this car is un harmed and decently taken care of you wont have these things.
