Default 385 Solid Roller Dyno Numbers on E85... 520rwhp

I made a few pulls tonight with short notice on E85. Needless to say i was very pleased with the results.

520rwhp 435rwtq

I ran the car a month ago here in Amarillo at 4900ft density Altitude and went 10.93 at 127mph with a 1.57 60ft, on C12 Race gas and 42 lb injectors.. I switched to e85 the next day and took the car around the block and it seemed to run better, i couldn't really tell with out a dyno or an "A-B" test at the track, but it felt better in the car. I noticed that the injectors were maxing out so i picked some some Racetronix 63 lb injectors.. I put those in last night and tonight decided to see how it dynoed , but i didn't take into consideration that the injector flow rate make take some time to dial in. The car would barely idle and ran like ****, the first pull the car did 300ish hp, lol, i let off and call a good friend for some advice. I made some quick changes to the injector tables and it picked up drastically!! The 2nd pull wasn't enough change and the dyno was recording anyway, on the 3rd pull it did 504rwhp , so i made another change to the injector tables and it did 520rwhp. I literally spent less than 5 minutes on the tune and probably 10 minutes on the phone prior for advice. I have tunes some heads cam lt1 back in the day but nothing of this caliber or had much experience with the XFi systems. I was more please that i got the car from running like crap to running like par in less than 3 pulls and 10 minutes on the dyno before we had to close down for the night ( noise laws)

When i have more time i am going to put the C12 tune back in the car ( and modify it for the new 63 lb injectors of course ) and see what it makes on C12 vs E85. I know one thing $9.00 per gallon for C12 gets old when you can buy E85 for $1.89 for 105 octane and make more power with it..

Dyno video will be up tomorrow check back then....

Great numbers man, what all changes would need to be made to a street driven LT1 to run on e85?

I thought the torque would be a little higher... but it probably pulls past 7500 without loosing much hp so who cares!

Glad to see to made it on the dyno, and that your still dialing in that setup. Theres more in it for sure. I've always heard that you'd use 30-40% more fuel, when running E85,correct? If thats the case, you made a wise choice by upgrading injectors

All i changed on mine was injector size for 32% more fuel all the time and the tune. I still need to check and see if the single Walbro 340 is enough pump, and i might need to upgrade fron -6 feed line to -8..

Again nice numbers and glad I could help. I forgot to mention to you on the phone that when tuning E85 you need to target the a/f richer than using normal race fuels. I can't remember the ideal ratio but you need to research it. Was something like 10:1 a/f.

Tony

Ya i read up on it before the conversion and for gas 14.7 stoic and 12.7-13.2 NA WOT

for E85 10.0 stoic and 7.0-8.5 NA WOT...

Most widebands wont read that low, so you have to change them back to lambda. Gas and E85 at Stoic are 1.00 lambda, and for WOT they are like .85 or something close to that, i dont have my note neat me.

thanks again for the help Tony, i might to a little more sweeking this week before i go Sportbike racing, if not it will just sit till the week after.

DAMN impressive.

If E85 becomes more available around here I am gonna do the switch for sure.

Any fuel SYSTEM changes? Or just injectors, pour it in and tune it?

Great numbers Brady! What was your baseline on C-12? Also, do you know or have you heard of what magic has to be done to run E85 with nitrous? I'm sure the jet sizes are way out of the norm. E85 has crept into my mind more that a few times but I've never messed with it. Seeing this might be the final nudge to at least start playing with it.

I'd have where ever you dyno'd have their weather station checked. That 26.8 in of pressure seems a bit off and its throwing the correction factor for quite a loop.

Look at the DA. Higher DA helps attribute to lower Hg...26.4 is the equivalent over 3K DA .
