t56-th350 or 400?
been thinkin about doin this before we put the car together but theres a bit of a $ issue and i hav some ?s first we have a brand new mcleod bellhousing spec 3+ clutch and steel flywheel and a short throw like not out of the boxes yet. and the t56 is rebuilt everything to strengthen it but the viper shaft. how much would all that fetch? idk what a rebuilt t56 goes for.
If i went th400 i need the trans shifter driveshaft and converter right? does the tune need to be changed? if i use a th350 i can use the driveshaft i have? would a th350 take the power? idk how much it will make but im going to say at the minimum 600 on a 200shot. the motor should be able to produce 400 easily. and what do i do with the pedal assembly? please let me know anything that might be missing and anything that might be optional but you suggest. last any recommended trans places i should be searching?

For that kind of power, go with the 400. Sure it's a bit heavier than the others, but it's also bulletproof. Transmission Specialties will sell you one with a RMVB and a trans-brake with whatever tail you want for $1500 picked up, out the door, ready to go. They are located in Aston PA. I've been to the shop a few times and it's quite impressive.

A TH350 would be able to take the abuse. My car isn't pumping out 600 on the sauce, but my TH350 is begging for more. Just a basic rebuild 6k miles ago with upgraded clutches and stuff. Front pump was changed out too, but the original would have been fine as well. It's ultimately your decision. What are the plans for the car? Strictly a track car? The 6 speed would be tons of fun, but I also have tons of fun in my 3 speed car. Only company I have dealt with (for my TH350 needs) is TSI (transmission-specialties.com). Their site is being updated but shoot them a call and they will get you squared away with your needs.
Edit: A TH400 wouldn't be a bad choice either.. That way you can get some better sleep at night

350 and a 400 require the same parts to do the swap. Trans, shifter, flex plate, converter, dip stick, converter and flex plate bolts.
If you get a short TS trans you should be able to reuse your DS and M6 cross member with some shimming. You dont need a retune but if you want your speedo to work you need to hook it up to the ABSs wheel speed sensor(assuming you removed the ABS) and have that calibrated.
I think a built 350 would be fine and a tad faster its not like your making 1000hp.

i traded all my 6 speed stuff straight up for a built th350 w/ultrabell and everything needed to bolt it in the car. We met half way, shook hands and both came back happy.

Edit: nvm.. I have a 6in -__- forgot that the Th350 with 6in tail is a bit over 2 inches shorter than the 4L60 I had before, that's why my drive shaft is longer. I probably could have gotten away with a stock DS. False alarm. Sorry for the

350's can hold it....Personally worked with a 350 behind a 9.50 car on juice that was street driven more than it should have been....a properly built 350 will handle just as much abuse as a 400 and save a bit of weight....
I say go for the 350 with RVMB and a brake and be more than happy with the abuse it handles...

I did a th400 in my firehawk with vig3600, rmvb, and b&m shifter with brake/linelock on shift **** and I would highly recommend it for your application. Probably the most fun I had with a car. T-brake especially
