Default Flywheel options/questions?

Are there any "middle weight" flywheels available?

And is there any problem with putting a used clutch/pressure plate on a new flywheel?

Billet steel flywheel is what your after for a "middle weight" flywheel. As far as using the old disk and PP, you can, but I wouldn't suggest it. I installed a new flywheel and a new disk with an old and un-resurfaced PP and my car slips the clutch in 3rd from time to time.

This time around I'm going aluminum flywheel and new clutch disk and PP probably the spec stage 3 again. Takes a little to get used to, but I love the clutch.

I just want something thats lighter than stock but not too light like some of my friends who have 12 pounders and hate them. Ive got the spec 3 too and I love it but with the stock flywheel its hitting the tires too hard on shifts to be effective unless I wanna throw a tire on and break stuff.

The billet steel are about 23#s IIRC and the stockers are what 50#s?? What don't your friends like about the aluminum flywheels?? From what I have researched I'm still wanting one, but I don't drag race at all so I'm not worried about that side of it

My centerforce billet steel flywheel weighs 33 pounds.I dont think the stock flywheel is that heavy,no way it is 50 pounds. And i would rather have a stock weight flywheel than the 33 pounder,it feels like **** on downshifts and does not rev as quick

i thought stockers were 28, correct me if im wrong? 23 would probably be a noticeable improvement for me.

I have 2 friends with aluminum flywheels and both complain that cars will not launch. One was launching at a prepped track on (good) street tires with good suspension and even a 4500 RPM launch would bog. 400rwhp ls1 car.

I'd like a noticeable difference, but i dont want to completely change how the car acts.

Wow, sorry about my previous post I could have sworn that my flywheel was at least 40#s.

I just looked on summit and the billet 153 tooth flywheel is 26#, aluminum is 12#, and stock is???<<I can't find anything.

I think I may have changed my mind as far as getting an aluminum flywheel, if its really that bad I don't want one. Maybe a billet steel will be in order

Your what? Your aluminum or steel? I kind of like my steel flywheel, but I wanted something that would make my car rev faster out of a corner, but from the sounds of it its just not going to work out like I thought with an aluminum. I don't want to give up a decent launch. But I guess that the billet steel is a good compromise and its actually a little bit cheaper

Isn't that just a reman. stock flywheel? I have a reman. flywheel from Autozone now, and it works fine.

IDK what the stock weight is. I think 28 lbs is stock so that 20lb should be a mid-weight.

Mine is a 12 lb and i hate it because you have to rev the **** out of it to take off, all the time. It also sucks in traffic. I have had two different clutches and they both sucked when hot. Later this month im going back to a stock 28 lb flywheel, stockish clutch and will have a smooth fun LT1 again.
