Gains from CAI to Lid?
#2
the real question is, how much do you like your car? Do you have ram air hood or a stock hood? reason i ask is 1 youll be doing alot of cutting to the car, and 2, better get ready to start hacking up the underside of your hood as well. i assume its not ram air since you have a CAI.
there are gains to be had, but mostly they are in the 1-2tenth area. on a camaro its no big deal, on a firebird its a little more tricky. Some people dont want to cut up their car just for that. but it has been proven then intake temps do lower by quite a bit over a CAI. The engine also sucks in more air.
Im glad i did mine, personally i think it looks badass to see a ls1 lid under a lt1 hood lol. but if your not into cutting your car up it may not be the mod for you. you can make the Radiator support look clean, but under the hood your still gonna have a nice size chunk that needs to come out, basically the outline of the LS1 lid.

honestly it would be easier to buy a lt1 ram air hood and then either do the lt1 ram air setup or the ls1 lid. Then just like the camaro you wouldnt have to worry about the hood and what not. its really the stock lt1 trans am/firebird hood that makes it a pain.

Faster times > more power/better grip/less weight > more air or fuel/more traction..... i dont beleive you touch the fuel system or the tires when doing this mod. The only thing changed is the air intake, thus changing the amount of air comming into the engine, also changine the amount of fuel comming into the engine.
That make more sense or do you want to roll your eyes some more

There's a thread on here that someone actually posted, i'll try to find it. but if i remember correctly that someone did a 1/4 mile run with a cai tuned then a 1/4 run with a lid tuned. the results were quite impressive.

I believe most of the gains are from IATs dropping and not so much airflow. I went from a CAI to the WS6 setup in a matter of about 10 minutes and felt a noticeable difference. The CAI flows enough CFM but the IATs are higher than a lid because of where the air is coming from.

i did some runs. My et dropped and i think i gained a mph. there was some controversey over the times due to the DA but all in all my car went faster, this was untuned and with the trans cooler blocking alot of air flow since i didnt cut everything i shouldve.

The volume of air entering the engine has nothing to do with the intake...unless it's super restrictive, the gains being seen are not from a difference in volume but from the less restrictive piping and probably due to lower iat's. If you took the intake off completely and ran just a throttle body you think it will suck in more air? The answer is no
I personally think it's quite a bit of work for the gains, my car made quite good power without one but props to those who go through the effort and do it clean and make it look like it belongs.
