I currently have a 355 with LE2 heads. I have 7k miles on the setup but just feels flat out slow now. I'm thinking of having a 396 built and reusing the same heads. I need to stay emissions legal so I can't get really wild with the cam selection. The ported tfs heads sound really nice but I'm thinking I wouldn't be able to maximize the heads full potential since my cam selection would be the bottle neck? Not going to be an all out race car maybe hit the track once and a while if that. I've searched and found good power and track times being put down with 383 and 396 but not sure of what cam they are using.

You should be making 400+rwhp from a 355 with le2 heads; depending on the cam. What cam are you using? What crank, rods and pistons are you running? You should be able to run a cam like the cc503 and pass emissions.

Won't show so. 96 Impala SS. FLT lv4 3600 SS Yank. Machine shop went with the Sealed Power L2256F - Speed-Pro Powerforged SB-Chevy Pistons. Stock crank and rods. I went with the largest emissions friendly cam he had available at the time.

What's it run at the track?

Just changing the displacement will help with low-end torque, but don't expect a world of change. If you want more measurable power, you're going to have to either find a way around emissions and get a more aggressive cam OR go the nitrous route.

Where is your compression at? You could always add a blower.

I think those pistons could be costing you some hp; I bought those pistons for my build, they are too heavy and compression is stock. They are a lot heaver than stock pistons; I went with a different higher compression and a lot lighter forged piston. If you do go to a 383; and want to keep it N/A, I would toss those pistons for some lighter/higher compression forged pistons.
