1.7 or 1.6 pro and con list help
1.6 roller rockers VS. 1.7 roller rockers
so i see lots of peeps running the 1.6 with cams but i find 1.7 here and there.
I plan on keeping my stock cam
but a list of pros and cons to help decide what size is right for different peoples set-ups ... a list of how each one works compared to the other and where each would perform better

I found my Scorpions to be of good quality and a nice looking piece. I haven't seen them in over 3 years since I put them on. They were quieter than the 1.6 Promags i had, and the 10 rwhp gain across the board from just a rocker swap was nice too.

You have to do springs with a rocker ratio swap.
There is a HUGE amount of room to upgrade cams before any compromise is made. I would do the 1.6s because they will be easier to match with a cam later on. You buy 1.7s now then later want to do a cam your cam/spring selection will likely be complicated by the 1.7s.

Any of the full roller rockers from those 3 companies will be a good choice. The only thing is, with some of the wide or full body style rockers you will have to trim the webbing on the inside of the stock valve covers for them to fit properly. I bought a set of 1.6 Comp Pro Mags, gently used with low miles for about $100 less than new on the for sale sections.
One word of advice though, don't waste your time with the roller tip only rockers. If you are going to buy rockers, do it right the first time around.
Oh and if I'm not mistaken, Crane sells the "gold" series and yes they are good.

1.6 comp cams are a good choice, but so are most of the others mentioned. I have had a set of 1.6 Comp roller rockers on my stock cam for at least 5+ years and not one problem. If your going to run a 1.6 or 1.7 I would suggest the LT4 composite covers. Its plug and play. I also have a set of brand new 1.7 comp roller rockers just sitting in a box, maybe I will install them some day

here you go:

Maybe I didn't write that correctly. I wasn't saying Harland Sharp for shaft mount rockers. And to be honest, without doing research, I couldn't even tell you if they make a shaft mount rocker. I used HS for all my Gen 1 SBC builds in the past.

for your setup, if you go with any of those rockers youll be fine. You arnt running anything that puts extreme pressures anywhere. Just be sure to upgrade your springs and i would do pushrods too, since once again your not running anything radical you could get some hardened comp cams high energy pushrods for under 40$. Ebay has some valve covers for cheap (60-70$) that clean up the engine bay and work with 1.6 rockers.

I'm running a 1.6 Harland sharp with no issues. Shaft mounts are made for higher rpm and horsepower applications to keep valvetrain geometry as precise as possible due to the reduction in rocker stud flex.
