Default Greeting from the UK. Got a few questions

Im thinking of using a LT1 engine for my 2200lb TVR

A few questions really

What ecu system do you guys use? or is the stock mappable?

Opti spark? what's the deal with that? bin it? or is it ok?

Im after 400-450 Bhp at the FLY (330-370rwhp) im thinking LE2 heads/cam and ported intake
It will have a custom air feed, custom decat exhaust
I will be using 98octane fuel

Am I being realistic?

Thanks

Alex

Greetings from the US and welcome to the site. Most of us just use the stock computer (PCM) and it is re programmable, there are plenty of good mail order tuners that you can use, I had mine programmed by pcmforless.com and they did a great job with it for a mail order tune. The opti isnt as bad as some people make it out to be. Im still using my stock opti from 97 and Ive never had a single issue with it (62k mi) Just be sure you get a vented opti, it was the original non-vented opti (pre 95) that had most of the issues you read about. 370+ rwhp is very realistic with a LE heads/cam intake combo. Im in that range with one of the smaller LT1 cams and home ported heads and full boltons. Not sure what a TVR is but if only weighs 2200 lbs it should be a screamer with a 370whp LT1 in it. Post a link to it, curious what one looks like. These guys can answer any LT1 question you might have, fire away.

Thanks for the reply,

I will probably try for 350 rwhp and then tune/cam for max mpg, £1.44($2.35) a litre here

Don't know what a TVR is? I thought you guys loved top gear?

Wow, I thought gas was pricey over hear ($3.75/gal). I do watch Top gear once in a while, mostly the newer US version though. Looks like a cool car, mine weighs around 3250 lbs and runs the numbers below. Now if I could just drop another 1000 lbs I'd probably be in the 10's, lol...

But is that 98 octane fuel?

My gearbox and drive-line cant handle much over 450 bhp at the FLY

And to be honest, I don't need any more power the car weighs nothing, and that's with with full leather and spare wheel,
I could probably do 12.7 with mu current engine

TVRs! I love them!

But yes welcome to the site, lots of good info on here. Some people know more then others, but if you know anything about cars, you'll figure it out in short order how knows what they are talking about! (and to be fair, I know a little but, not as much as a few of the guys on here. )

More pics of the tvr and if you can, pictures/videos of swapping in the lt1.

:edit: I love top gear

:more edit:

Negative, we tune our cars for 93. With 98 you could add some more compression and get a few more hp out of it I would bet.

Thanks

If I were to use the stock harness, what can I remove of the harness with out throwing a fault code? and possibly sending the unit into limp mode?

As I don't need half the stuff on the harness

What all are you looking to remove, cause the PCM can be tuned to not show some emission fault codes.

I have no emission testing here in NH. I've removed...

EGR, Cats, AIR pump, and AC.

For removing wires, if you want to lose AC you can remove them from the harness and the EGR connection....Thats about it really, the PCM uses everything to monitor the car.

And again, if you don't tune it out it will throw a fault code removing the egr and air systems.

Hope that's some help, I'm no expert with the wiring harness.

And again, someone correct me if I'm wrong, i hate giving wrong info...

Gonna guess and say its behind a 6 speed. Then the a4 connector can go.

Not sure about c100, c105, c210, c220, c230, or vss. No idea what all they are tied into.
Hope shoebox or someone else chimes in on what they are tied into and if you can delete them or not. I'm better at the wrenching part then wiring

Sorry couldn't be more help.

Either way gonna be a bad *** ride when your done.

since your *** deep in wiring you should look into a 24x conversion(search this section), other wise allot of people swap to OBDI for tuning purposes.

you can delete all that a/c crap no problem but you'll need to tune out the EGR/check valve to keep it from throwing a light..but I have no idea what the inspection requirements are over ther

Im not worried about it throwing a light, as it wont be connected to a light ;-)

But I don't want it running 'limp' 'get home' mode

Inspection requirement??!?! we just give the tester a drink to test the emissions in a another car ;-)

Will search thanks

Remember that there's ~3.8 liters in a gallon. Gas is far cheaper in the States. UK taxes fuel like mad, and they also tax engine displacement.
