Default How much slack is too much?

I have the timing cover off my 97 TA, changing the seals. My timing chain has about 1/2" slack on each side, is this too much? The engine is stock with 115k miles.

Yeh, I thought about just changing it, but I would rather leave the factory parts in there if there isnt't excessive wear. I'm just not sure what kind of slack is normal
