Default Firehawk Motor Removal

Looks like I need to pull the motor in my Firehawk. I was going to have it done, but I think I will do it and handle the repairs myself thinking I'll be more careful. Question is, should I pull it from the top or bottom?

I always do it from the top, but next time i will use a happy hooker instead of pulling the intake and using a chain, nothing wrong with that but i want to try the hooker lol. I pull the bumper and the hood and bring her out in long block form.

This has been debated to death but out the bottom has always been easier for me and all the ones I have done. The best part of doing it that way is you can put 99% of everything together out of the car.... headers, trans, wiring harness etc. I can have a car running and driving within a hour and a half of rolling and dropping the car down. I have built at least 10 of these cars and by far it was the easiest way to do it.

I did mine out the bottom. It was easier than out the top.

If I do mine, it will be using the happy hooker. Why take the bumper off?

I have done it through the top and through the bottom and I found through the bottom to be easier.

I had to take my bumper off too because the cherry picker was rubbing a against it and if I would have continued I feared It would press to hard against it and possibly crack. With the bumper off you can move the picker in to just the right spot. I went with through the top, knowing it is easier out the bottom, I wanted to be able to move my car to the other side of the garage quickly once the engine was out. From the bottom definitely seems easier in some aspects.

Edit: what happened to the ROH wheels?

Thanks man! I am the second owner.....I bought it in 1996 with 7k on the clock. It has 44k now but has been off the road for the past 5 years.

Any pictures of your car?

I'm probably going to clean/detail everything when it comes apart.

I still have the wheels in my basement. I put the torque thrust II's on in 2000 for a different look. I have every part including the factory airbox that I ever took off the car.

You took the intake off? Glad you still have the wheels. They're very rare items.

It's the same as yours except T-tops and the SLP Two on the Left exhaust. I've owned mine since the day it rolled off the truck in January of 1994. I had 60k on it before the rebuild. I drove it hard. A lot of street racing. It's in need of a full body paint job. Especially since my car tent collapsed on it 3 years ago.

I've done it both ways many times with these cars. The bottom has been the fastest and easiest every time.

Wow that's awesome! I thought I had mine for a long time! I just removed the factory airbox lid and replaced it with a modified Corvette one.

Only thing I do different is take the shocks off at the a-arm instead of unbolting them from the shock tower. Less bolts and it's easier to align when getting the k-member in place. JMO.

For a firehawk I would go out the side, a Camaro out the bottom and a TA out the top.

I have a question for all of you who take yours out the bottom. How are you marking the carriage alignment to make sure the kmember goes back in correct or are you having an alignment with carriage adjustment after you reinstall it?
