Default Stupid Idea - 5-6 PSI on 11-12:1 Comp - Whos doing it?

Just a stupid idea considering some of the cheap SC kits all over the parts classifieds. Whos running low boost with high compression? I wouldnt mind mixing a gallon of 110 with pump considering the car isnt a daily. I also could change my head gaskets to get the comp down to 11.5-7. Id imagine pulling a small amount of timing with colder plugs id be fine and put down close to 500 RWHP with an unlocked converter. That would be sweet, lol.

Sounds like a terrible idea with that high compression...you would need race gas, methanol injection, huge intercoolers, boost retard ignition, a GREAT tune and still risk blowing it up....here's the calculator to calculate your effective compression ratio....doesn't look too friendly: 17.25:1 http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/Effectiv...ssionCalc.html

With that 396 why are you not putting down 500 rwhp now?!

Going by the effective compression ratio....you would need pure C16 Race gas: http://www.vpracingfuels.com/vp-drag-racing.html

Maybe he meant he was going to mix that gallon of 110 with 12 ounces of pump gas? LOL.

Man up and fill 'er up with straight C16. Then get the big boy pulley for that charger.

Well the difference in 11:1 and 12:1 with 5-6# is quite a bit. Saying that... 11:1 yes i would run 5-6# keep timing very conservative and have a spot on tune. 11.5:1.. not unless i was running a cam with a lot of overlap... which isn't optimal.. really would be a band-aid thing. Also something else to think about is what the heads will flow... this can dramatically change what the motor will handle/like.

Food for Thought -

I'm running 13 lbs of boost on my 11:1 CR LT1/4 (with 93 octane gas a boatload of Meth to keep it from blowing up) and I've got about 50K miles on this combination; but if you listen to all the KIAs here they'll tell you it can't be done...

Hot Rodding is about finding a way when everyone else says there is no way - go for it!

It is possible to run boost with high compression if you really know what you are doing and have a REAL tuner. Most people wouldn't be able or willing to handle that kind of build, and honestly it wouldn't leave much room to grow since you won't be able to turn the boost up very high.

I would save a TON of money and problems and port(or further port your heads if they are already) and swap cams. Will be a decent bump in power and a lot less risky...plus wwwwaaaayyyy cheaper then a reliable boost setup.

Baby HR cam, stalled auto, unlocked converter. Just because its a 396 doesn't mean it will automatically put down 500 to the wheels.

There is a guy on our local board with a 363 SBF and a crank driven F2 putting down 1308rwhp with an ungodly compression ratio. I cant remember exactly what it is but I'll ask if you're interested. Food for thought.

But as mentioned earlier tuning is crucial.

I'm building my 355 for 11.1 and 12-15 lbs of boost but I'm gonna run it on e85
