LOUD Backfire and stalled? OPTI-SPARK dead?
So i was driving and POP! a loud backfire, bit of sputtering and then my car died. I pulled over and kept trying to start it but i only got a hand-full of backfires. found nothing leaking or smoking in the engine bay so i was stumped..
Now everytime i try to start, it will just backfire on me. When i place the ignition on the ON position i will hear a crunch/clicking sound coming from where my OPTISPARK is located.
I had just recently upgraded to MSD 8.5 super-conductors with NGK TR-55 plugs. I gaped them correctly according to stock specs. One thing that i did do diffrent was i may have over filled my oil by a bit due to it leaking a bit but other then that it was running FINE. A bit high oil PSI but nothing to crazy.
Also prior to the MSD plugs it has be struggling to start. Takes about 1-3 seconds to start, but it been like that for a while. i Just thought it was my Opti going out. And my CAT are pretty much done for. Thought it was cuase they were clogged but im leaning towrds the OPTI.
any help would be appriciated since im in LA currently and i live in San Francisco and well im kinda stuck now. Thanks guys.
SPECS: 1994 Pontiac Trans Am. Flowmasters cat-back,CAI,Ported MAF,MSD 8.5,NGK TR-55.

Thanks guys. im gonna pull the opti today and see if it is loose. if not ill have to buy one. Any idea on which brand. i heard the AC delco where good but that they might not use the the mitsubishi sensor anymore.
If it is loose, is there a certain position that i will have to place the sensor in.
Thanks for all the help.

There is a reference dowel for the rotor to seat onto. If that dowel is broken then you can simply buy a new cap and rotor. Far less than a new opti. For the screws, blue/read/green/whatever loc-tite you have will work.
