Default Muffler comparisons.

Hey folks, I love my magnaflow muffler on my car, but it is way to loud/redneck sounding to my liking. On a backroad in my area where i usually do test hits, going 100MPH with that magnaflow is just letting everyone on that road know to call the cops Its to loud for the engine not to have a bigger cam, im sure yall understand what im talking about. I love the sound of turbo mufflers, so i was wandering if any of you have had experience with the dynomax super turbo muffler? Right now i run stock manifolds, a gutted cat, and stock pipes. I tuned the car to run with all the mods i have done to it since August. The reason i want to try the turbo muffler isn't because of the price, but mainly because it still flows better than stock, and has a tight pissed off sound to it under WOT.

Just had a Hooker Aerochamber welded in on my car, just as quiet as stock cruising, flows much better than stock, but still has a pretty great race car sound at WOT. Pretty cheap for a good quality muffler too. Just my .02

My friend has the super turbos on his Roadmaster. Even with long tubes, no cats, x-pipe, dumps, it's still pretty damn quiet. Very good sleeper mufflers.

I didn't think the magnaflow was that loud before I did the cam.

The magnaflow I have on sounds almost as loud as straight pipe, I drove my car to the exhaust shop straight pipe to save 45$, and when I drove home it was barely any different except at idle... However, I'll probably run the super turbo, I love sleepers! I'm the only 16 year old kid looking to make his z28 quiet haha, I don't want unwanted attention.. If I wanna get loud that's what my header cutout is for!

I've heard a lot of great things over the aerochamber. I'm a big fan of anything to do with hooker performance. I'm deciding between the super turbo or the aerochamber... I like the quietness and tight sound of the turbo but if the aero is only race loud upon WOT... Hmmm

I looove my hooker aerochamber, perfect tone and volume cruising, but it opens up pretty good when wot. I've got a clip of it somewhere on YouTube, I can link it if you like.

Both the hooker and super turbo on my friend's cars sound like semi trucks compared to my magnaflow, imo. Neither of them have cams but I don't remember my car sounding like that even with bolt ons.

The magnaflow I have wasn't the direct replacement for the z28, it has the same inlets and outlets it's just a really short muffler, and I'm running a gutted cat, maybe another reason is the muffler shop put on 3 1/2" piping for tail pipes and redneck 4" tips that i call cat catchers.

That does have a nice sound to it, very raspy. I'm glad it's not ear piercing loud. Such a tough decision!

Here's an old thread with some flow numbers. not sure if the super turbo is mentioned, but looking at the flow numbers of some of the other mentioned ones is interesting:

The highflow cat makes a huge difference in sound over the stock one, I was surprised. It's alot less raspy than a straight pipe or gutted cat though.

I have one on my car also, just dont have a clip. Sounds great IMHO. Not loud at all when cruising around.

I have lts and ORY and used to have the magnaflow catback with a cutout, through the catback it was very mellow at idle, and sounded good at WOT but was no louder than some of the new cars off the showroom floor. Cutout open it was obnoxious and you could hear me a mile away. Now I have just a magnaflow 18" bullet hanging off the Y pipe and it is a completely different sound, not as loud as the cutout, still has a good tone, but at WOT it screams. Much louder than the catback, and sounds like this is what you have now. Going to a full magnaflow catback will definitely quiet it down.

Mine sure has. I run a few simple mods though, nothing much, just stuff that'll help it breath better at higher speeds.
