Default LT1 valve train noise

My brother bought a 95 z28 2 days ago and of course during the test drive everything seemed normal with the exception of needing Trans mount and TA bushing.
We got headed home and heard alot of chatter in the valvetrain on the drivers side. We assumed bad lifter so we changed those along with the pushrods and adjusted the valves. When we fired her back up all seemed good, we took it for a drive to town and sitting at idle, the chatter came back. We're gonna get a compression test done hopefully tonight but in the mean time, does anyone have an idea as to what it could be?

Also, if this makes a difference, the brake booster is bad and needs replaced.

Is this only happening when the engine is at idle? LT1s of this era are somewhat known for low oil pressure at idle, which could be partially responsible for the noise you're hearing. What kind of oil pressure dos the engine have, and how many miles are on it?

It's has over 200 on motor as far as either of us know. At idle the oils psi is 25-30 but runs up to 60 while driving
The tick follows with the rpm, not just an idle thing.

I know this is a long shot, but have you tried using a stethoscope (or long screw driver held to the object in question), and your ear, and listening to the fuel injectors? One other thing, give a listen down around the distributor. I once had an ignition rotor come loose (OE Opti), allowing the rotor to "clip" each contact of the distributor cap, as the rotor rotated. Took a while to track that one down....

We did the screwdriver thing and it sounded like the noise was coming from around the #3 & 5 cylinder. Not sure what it is.

Not that I've seen but I think changing gaskets will be our next step. Some of the header bolts were loose, we tightened them up but still no change with the tick.
