Factory tach is slow and innacurate.

I would mount it on the A piller, that peice is CHEAP to replace if you ever want to un-mullest your car,a lot cheaper than a dash pad.

Yea I was thinking high on the A-Pillar for the reasons you stated. And yes....I know my car has a factory tach.. But like he said, slow and inaccurate, and a shiftlight isnt a bad idea even in an auto car if u ask me. Might toss in a ratchet shifter eventually.

You can go old school around the wheel with a big black zip tie. It doesn't look bad and is easily removed. Depends on what size tach you want to use...

Did that in my 68 Nova, not sure if it would look good in a 4th gen Z. I would say the A pillar. Use zipties to you advantage. How about in the little pocket under the radio? You could make a guage bezel out of aluminum. The only drawback of that is it would not be at eye level.

I tried the tach thing...and from experience it was cool at first, but you really find out how much you pay attention to your RPM - which isn't much. I think it's a distraction and the only thing you could really benefit from is a shift light, unless your speedometer doesn't work or never will work, and/or you do some road racing or auto-x. Other than that, if you're drag racing things happen to quick to look over/down/up to say "gee looky at that needle, wow " and by the time you look down and back up you've already passed about 300rpm. I've got my rev limiter set at about 2~300 rpm past peak power, so if I hit the rev limiter I know exactly where I was and what to adjust for next time.

Here's where I've got my shift light.

is that shifter photoshopped??

also, I agree I wouldnt mount a huge tach on the dash, go with a 2 1/16 tach on the a pillar if you must, but like you said it has an auto so you really wouldnt need it, plus I think the huge 5" tachs look gross on the dash IMO

Im kind-of a gauge guy. We spend lots of money on that chunk under the hood, I figure why not monitor the thing accurately (Factory Gauges can be Scary Inaccurate)
