Default Tightening the banjo bolts in back of the heads.

Appearantly I have sprung a leak at the banjo bolts in back of the heads. Initially I thought it was a head gasket but luckly is wasn't. Does anyone have a tip for tightening the bolt back there? How do you do it? Or do you.

If you have sprung a leak at the back of the head on the crossover tube (banjo bolts) then most likely one of the seals has sprung a leak. there are 4 seals 2 on each head. You will need to replace all four as for the cossover tube will will have to come off to replace them. They are about 6-11 dollars a piece to buy. Since you will have to remove the tube to replace the one leaking replace all 4. Also check the crossover tube for cracks to make sure it is not leaking. use a 15mm wrench to remove them. It is not alot fun to get to either. I get mine from Dal Slaghbagh at 1-877-448-5451. He is about the cheapest around. A local dealer wanted 11 dollars a piece for them the last time I looked. Good luck

Just be careful not to overtighten. I have seen the hole strip out before, which required removal of the head to fix...

A ratcheting 15mm wrench works nice for those banjo bolts.

Not sure if it is recommended but Ive seen GM oil drain plug seals used here also. Much cheaper and probably made out of the same material

Here are the prices from GMPP. Might be a little dated. Use Dal, like said, for best prices.

Compliments of shoebox.

The seals are all brand new and have about 400 miles on them. Am I really in need of replacing them?

These bolts get tightened like there you oil pan plug, tight but not over tightened. So I check them to see if they are loose.

If it is leaking I would replace the seals even if you only did the one that was leaking. Being that it is already leaking your chances are slim that even if you tighten it that it will stop and not come back to haunt you in the fututre.

The trick is to apply a little lubrication on the seals before you install them.
