Default How critical is a High volume oil pan?

I was planning on building my 383 soon , and planned on replacing the pump. I really wanted to know how important a bigger oil pan is. Is it a must have or what?

IMO for the average strip/street 383 it's an or what, good to have but not vital.

(caveat: it really depends on what you're doing with the car; for example if you're planning on long full power operation IE roadracing or the Silver State style courses I'd go for all the oil volume and best cooler I could afford.

the reason you upgrade the pan with a HV pump is becasue at high RPM the stock pan will get sucked dry, you need a higher capacity pan if your going to have a HV pump and be at fairly high RPMs
