Engine Problems
Ok guys, i am almost ready to get her on the road but i have a bit of a problem with my engine. When we first started it up it ran like ****, backfired and popped a whole lot, when starting it it would shoot a flame out the intake, the next day i adjusted the rocker arms and the flame out the intake thing was solved but the popping and backfiring still was the same. Backed off the rockers about a 1/4 turn and everything was a whole lot better but the backfiring was still evident at very low RPM, like 800 and below when it was trying to idle. The car has a mail order tune on it for a 224/234 538/545 on a 110 cam (custom grind) and 30 lb injectors, along with a few other things like deleted o2's, AIR, EGR, and 4.10's. Well we adjusted the throttle plate a bit so it like adjusting the idle air screw and it helped a little bit, but we let it sit over night and come back and it runs like complete **** again, not as bad as the beginning but the popping is back and it doesnt want to idle. We have a hunch that it might be the tune being too lean and thats where the popping is from, we were going to put it on a tech 2 but my battery (which has held up galliantly thus far) finally went out after all the starting it had been doing. You guys have any ideas, there is a SES light on but i dont have my EVAP system hooked up yet and that is the only emisisons im keeping. Any ideas would help, im hoping its just the tune since i can send him the computer again and have him tweak it just a bit, i dont understand why it happened in the first place since i sent him a copy of the cam card with the computer so he had all the information he needed to tune for it. What do you guys think?
