i wouldn't say headers are a pain in the *** unless you consider the time it takes to do them a pain in the *** because it certainly takes a good deal of a time commitment to get everything taken care of a lot of things have to come off
it took me about 14 hours straight working on it by myself and taking many cig breaks to relax i took my time and got it done right im sure i could have done it quicker if it wasn't my first header job

LT1s seem harder to put longtubes on than ls1s. A friend told me a way to make the job completely easier. Loosen the back bolts half way on the k-member and let the engine rest from there so you have more room. Making sure the engine is held up first, then slowly drop it.
Now if I heard this, I still probably wouldn't of did it because it's an extra step that isn't usually mentioned in walk-throughs. But by doing it the hard way myself, I wish I would have did this extra step. Just some advice.

Really took that long?!?! Eh, I dont think mine took that long but, it was probably around 6 hours. Mine went right in, perfect fit, no clearance issues. I already had the EGR and AIR removed beforehand.

It took me a while too. But it all depends. Sometimes the headers fit right in, as for me, they didn't. I had the worse light and tools available. God I wish I had ratcheting wrenches!
